Been watching your TV lately? There's a big difference between anarchists and nihilists that the nice people on your telescreen don't care for you to understand.
True....it would seem to those that this is just a phase, a game to be played that will fade over time..Yet, those in power are continuously feeding this movement with the ripple effect by taking away from our livelihood, with more layoffs, more store closings, jobs being lost, food being contaminated and not supplied in some instances, and the health industry want us to remain ill for their profits, and those who continue to trade on wall street that which the common worker must provide for them to even trade...even it it means death for the women, children and men who work so hard to do so for them!.
This is madness in its purest form and I feel sorry for those who cannot see that destructive train coming straight at them..
Gather your thoughts and gather your food, medicines, water, etc..because it has not gotten as bad as it will get yet...So get prepared and Remember...you have been warned!
this ain't going away!
I agree but let's get tactical and engage in nonviolent direct action on a massive scale. They know what to do with violence. That plays right into their hands. They do NOT know what to do with nonviolent direct action and it is THE 1% and their mi ions that look bad on TV if they go after nonviolent protesters / marchers / people engaged in nonviolent direct action. We will blow it if we engage in violence. It is not a oregone conclusion that middle American is not with us.
As a matter of fact at various points many of them were with us. We new to pay attention to that. It has an impact on how the police and military are deployed with middle America's taxpayers. The 1% would love nothing more than to see violence. It would make destroying this movement easy. They can't beat nonviolent direct action though.
Agreed, throughout history, violence brings about violence.
It is strategic for any enemy to infiltrate an organization or movement with those (traitors) who can be bought and sold for a dime.. It would not be unrealistic to realize it is being done here as well. Those who are intent on destroying would do that to any one and anything. Those who are sincere regarding a true humane cause know what needs to be done.
Yes, I'm with you 100% there. The problem we face here in America is how to get people out in the street with us. It is difficult enough to get them to sympathize with the movement, and then to get that feeling strong enough to convince them to attend a march instead of just following #ows on twitter.
A friend I met while studying abroad is from the Middle East and he marched in his country during the Arab Spring. He said one march had some 100,000 people in it. If I marched with that many Americans at once, or even half that, I'd cry so much I'd be beside myself.
So how do we get our people in the streets? I already stand with a sign and wave at traffic once a week to try and get the word out there, but that just gets some honks of support and that's it.
Violence feeds into the desires & plans of the filthy rich. It will turn the great majority of the USA against the Occupy movement. Wanna real change things? Commit to TOTAL non-violence and passive resistance. Want to get most of the country against the Occupy movement? Keep up the violence, trashing stuff, and burning the American flag.
"Hundreds arrested at Occupy Oakland; protesters break into City Hall
Story updated 6:00 a.m. ET:
A U.S. flag was burned by a group of protestors inside City Hall, according to City Council President Larry Reid. City officials also said three police officers and one protester were injured during Saturday's events.
Story updated 3:15 a.m. ET: ....
In the statement, released in a PDF file format, Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said: "Once again, a violent splinter group of the Occupy Movement is engaging in violent actions against Oakland."
Not exactly the non-violent movement I first followed. We need to counter their propaganda or distance ourselves from the violence if we are to win the hearts and minds of the 99%
Sorry, I think it is too late for that. You do not have my support. All of this is ridiculous. The longer it drags out, the less attractive it becomes. While traveling this week in NC for business, the Charlotte news was about how the recently evicted Occupy Charlotte was found to be using a storm drain for a bathroom. This flows directly into a major creek in that area. Way to be environmental. Plus, here is the home of BofA, and the OWS only counted about 50 people. Sorry, no momentum here. Personally, all you are doing is costing me more tax dollars for police, cleanup of human waste (Charlotte called in the Haz-Mat team), garbage, etc. Not to mention beautiful parks where I can go with my family now look like refuge camps.
In all honesty, it is pretty evident that OWS NOW HAS it's own 1% to deal with.
I very much expect that the original 1% will look like pussy cats when you come up against the new 1% which, whether you like it or not, are a product of OWS actions.
If you are ready to die for your cause, just realize that you die for this new 1%, your creation. Enjoy what life you have. You have created the monster and will be subject to it.
They also smashed the windows on the local ch 5 news van. Bet that'll get positive coverage!!! Almost got in a fight with 'the grey haired anchor dude'.
It seems to me that no one cares when others have been put to death in this country by the hands of bigots, racists, immoral acts of officials or the rich and powerful, or anyone else that claims to have the right to do what they do when stepping upon the rights of others and draining them dry!.
Where does this OMG, hands over mouth, I am so mortified fake indignation come from?.
What makes you think or believe that any change in human rights policies has never been done without bloodshed throughout history?
You people are living in a dream world that has now become a living nightmare for the down trodden. If you had any B---s you would get off that couch and find out why this is really happening across the globe and become part of the solution instead of the problem!
But it's alright for someone to kill a protester, but immoral to protest?
Get real....this is live, real and it ain't going away!! Stop acting like little girls!!
I am female also, and I have seen death of individuals standing up for what is right by the hands of the so-called Elitists rulers. OW is not a joke, it is not something to keep score on, or to give kudos because someone broke someone else jaw!
People, this country is about to get a rude wake up call, no food, no jobs, no homes, no health, no where to run...Why are you all thinking you are watching a movie??? Sheesh!!
Thank you for your words! And yes, the wake up call has already hit a lot of us pretty hard. The younger generation is hypnotized, millions of people lost in thought, indeed as if they were watching a movie. As we have seen, those who march in the streets get overwhelmed by police. In America, we cannot expect our brothers and sisters to join us. How else does a revolution continue?
These incidents are part of a stand alone complex because the movement in America has no central momentum.
We need your brains, because some of us don't know what to do besides storm the streets and get beaten by the police. Absolutely nothing about our situation will change regardless of whether we are 'smarter than this' or not. Or do you actually think that we can change our situation in this country if we are smart about things? What unfounded faith in your fellow man. I don't believe it myself, but if you do then you should stop ridiculing those getting injured tonight and instead join us.

I regret if my comments came across as ridicule because that is certainly not my intent. It is terrible that people were injured tonight and I know that the conduct of the police tonight was poor in many regards.
Yes, I do think we can change our situation, but we will only change our situation when there are large numbers of Americans in support of the movement. Flag burning alienates a lot of people at a deep emotional level which is very hard to overcome. Breaking windows of news vans will not get favorable coverage from the press. We need to win people over, not turn them against us.
I don't understand the point of tonight's action. What does taking over an abandoned building have to do with any of Occupy's objectives? Getting arrested in front of Goldman Sachs is connected to our objectives. Protesting at the offices of your congress people who voted for NDAA is connected. We need to be strategic and that means thinking about how every action will be perceived.
Completely agree. If we're aiming for results, we should engage in tactical nonviolent direct action. Because it WORKS and the opposition has no idea how to deal with it. On the other hand, they know exactly how to handle violence. They have the play book for that.
You are soon to find out that the opposition is now represented by a new 1% derived from the 99%.
How do you think that tactical nonviolent direct action is going to save you from their destruction - destruction that will included YOU and everyone in their path.
You have created and promoted a "monster", better be ready for a little more that your tactical nonviolent direct action with that one.
Oh okay! Sorry for accusing you of ridiculing. It's hard to judge tone on websites and I was jumping to conclusions. Again, I'm very sorry. :C
Judging from the live streams they intended to take over a building to convert it to a community center. I don't think that's a bad thing, but just people talking on the live stream is not a concrete source.
It is our right to burn our own flag when we have been dealt an injustice, but I agree that most people will not understand it. It's almost pointless to worry about how we will be perceived because the mass media is likely to smear us anyways.
I also agree that we should remain nonviolent, though I've been reading some history of France in the late eighteenth century as well.

Yes, it is hard to discern tone when you only have the written word to rely on. I'm not a great writer so I'm sure I sometimes come across in ways I don't mean.
I fully support everyone's right to burn a flag. One of the reasons I wouldn't burn the flag is precisely because I value the right of people to burn it if they want to. It is just a bad move if you want to gain public support.
Please don't give in to a sense of futility about how the mass media will portray you. I saw the flag burning on Twitter. Much information is distributed by us citizen journalists nowadays. We certainly don't need to give the media the rope to hang us.
Most of all, we need to have as many police and military on our side as possible. When they refuse to carry out unjust orders - that's when we have won.
Look at what you have created and tell me that this was your original intent. Whether you like it or not, you will be held responsible for the actions of this new 1% that is part of the OWS. You have been so against the original 1% that you have let this monster arise who will have no respect for the flag, this country the original 99% or 1% or YOU.
This is your creation, your brain child. Live with it if you can. You are the ones right in there with them, on the firing line. So they burned a flag, and destroyed part of City Hall - you will not be able to simply isolate them as you did the rest of us. THEY ARE OWS same as YOU.

Occupy Movements current, perceived, mission statement as demonstrated by recent actions - In order to “occupy” our time, we will agree to, destroy public property, damage private property, disrupt small business and its employees, harass or heckle civil servants, break and enter and vandalize City Hall, and fight for the freedom to pitch tents, and camp, wherever we please.
You've lost the cause already. "Occupy" seems more about "camping" rights, tents rights, and just spending time and energy disrupting people other than "Wall Street". Your stance appears to be lost and angry. Get refocused, or go away.
Lets's see.......This is the New York Times and I do believe Corporate America 'Loves the New York Times" http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/o/occupy_wall_street/index.html
Yet, I don't see any articles written by anyone with the name of yankee or crank yanker, do you?
If anarchists run this movement, then maybe it is the Communists who have taken over Congress and the government offices by way of Corporate America? You can't have it both ways, the reality here is it is not going away. What have you to lose anyway?
Seems this movement is led by anarchists.
