Food Committee needs YOU!

Posted 13 years ago on Aug. 24, 2011, 11:12 p.m. EST by chris

Hi everyone,

My name is Chris and I am a member of the Food Committee. Last night I went over, in exhaustive detail, where we are as far as getting people fed. I won't recount everything here, frankly because I'm right about to go to bed, but you can read the post here:

https://occupywallst.org/forum/logistics-food/

I figured I'd make a new post, because I don't want this to get lost at the bottom, but the Food Committee has just set up a WePay account where we are currently accepting donations. Any support would be great.

I think the momentum of these gatherings should continue, The protest is against corporate greed & should be more sharply directed at them. One huge way of doing so would be to interrupt the foreclosure of homes. In general on the first Tuesday of every month foreclosed homes are literally auctioned off on the court room steps of almost all counties through out the U.S. protesting & disrupting those sales would be making a major statement against corporate greed.

Ive been working for the last few days to put together supplies for a trip up to nyc to cook for the protestors. once there we need to know who to get in contact with to get the ball rolling.

Have you guys thought about Thanksgiving yet? That would be a beautiful time to bring together people and rally a lot of food donations. It would also be beautiful to see the movement share a meal together at the same time- there is something unequivocally beautiful about breaking bread together. I'm currently in Boston but am planning on cooking some food to bring out when I return to NY for the holiday. I hope someone seriously considers the potential here, since this holiday could lead to a lot of donated food. If anyone down there actually reads these comments you can email me at cmullane@bu.edu. I'd be willing to spend the next month setting up some form of food donation for this cause- I currently work for a non-profit involved in hunger relief and see the potential to organize a lot of retail salvage and group action around this event.

get a metal pot, and some charcoal, get a smaller tin cup. then some soup and or water. light the charcoal, put the cup and soup on the smoldering charcoal,
and this will keep a tent warm for hours. not much smoke either. this is an old biker trick of mine. and you see most of my relatives fought in the first revolutionary war in this country. they are not protesting banks. they are protesting corporate greed

We should all just bring some extra food. Rice is cheap as fuck. Stir-fry all around.

So what happened to the kitchens that were supposed to be there?

Maybe you guys should have bought an old MKT.

The loving and caring left fails to give in sufficient quantity? Are you too used too taking to give?

[-] 0 points by anonymous () 13 years ago

Can you spell projection? How can the left be "takers" when the rich right has it all? But nice try. Second thought, lousy try. Foxed-Up News needs new material.

I will contribute but don't you think it is funny that you are using wepay which uses bank infrastructure, visa, mastercard, discover, to accept money.

Who do you suggest be used?

[-] 0 points by anonymous () 13 years ago

The point is you could not survive with the very system you proclaim is evil.

We could survive fine.

Then why don't you? You need the goods and services provided by the corporate system as much as anyone. When you make these internet posts, some corporation somewhere is making a profit off of you. Somebody invests in those internet companies and bought the stock from their wall street broker. So by using the sytem you are supporting it. Want to really hurt corporations? Get enough people to stop buying their products. Live off of the land, 100%. Dont use prescription drugs by the way, because drug company execs make a ton - way more than most wall streeters.

Lol, the beautiful fallacy that is consumer democracy.

[-] 0 points by anonymous () 13 years ago

Non answer. Life is full of fallacy - sitting on a sidewalk singing kumbaya won't change that.

I'm not planning to sit and kumbaya is a dreadful song.

Better guard that food carefully. I heard that someone is planning to scare us off by tainting our food supply... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denatonium The stuff can be bought online and just a few drops will ruin a whole tub of peanut butter!

[-] 1 points by anonymous () 13 years ago

Really, where did you hear that from? The (lone) plotter (it could be any one of us) confessed it to you? And you thought the appropriate action was to post to a food thread rather than bring this privately to the attention of the organizers? Good job. Very scary.
