I've wondered for years why the news media never looked at the Bush family's involvement with the oil industry. Then I found out who owned the media. That explained that! I can't understand how the working poor can listen to that crap about Republicans being for "family values" when they've been known historically for supporting big business. When you ask one of these people to explain what values they're talking about, most of them have no clue, but that's how they vote all the same.
For years American corporations have cut costs by cutting their payroll. We've given up raises for so many years that it no longer pays to gain an education and get a better job. My kids have student loans bigger than my mortgage. This has got to stop. I remember when the American dream was a nice house in a nice suburb and two cars in the driveway. I make over $75,000 per year, but I can't afford that.
We've cashed in our retirement and bought a small farm where we have a garden, orchard and chickens. We hunt, fish and I spin and weave our own clothes. We're gradually paying down all debt and converting to a cash basis. This is the only way I will ever be able to retire. This country is a mess. We need to tax big business and find a way to prevent their interference in our politics. We need to find better ways to deliver health care to everyone in this country. We are the only industrialized nation that does not offer national health coverage. We should be ashamed.
There has to be a better way and we need to find it.
Why are we still allowing corporations to pursue oil? Why aren't we looking at alternative energy. They've torn up Alaska and the Texas coast, they've poisoned the Gulf and turned the seas to blood. We need to take big business out of the driver's seat of this country. We need to punish the oil companies for the damage they've done the environment. The 1% are not good stewards.
