I was born in 1987.
My mother is disabled and supported me and my brother on government assistance programs.
I have not known a day of my life without debt.
Years ago I thought we had managed to get out of our everyday debts, and I was happy.
Then debt collectors called representing dead companies and the programs that helped us asked for that money back.
We are now in more debt than ever before.
I work near minimum wage for a living.
I don't have any credit cards. I've never signed up for a loan. Yet they found a way to take more from me than taxes.
