I don't like jumping on any trend or bandwagon, until I observe it for a bit. One idea; Everyone that doesn't have enough money in their accounts to avoid fees, rent a safe deposit box, and put all your money in there. You're not getting interest anyway.
2nd Idea, probably too late for this x-mas but good for next year. Start a campaign for everyone to give money to charities in the name of the adults you would have otherwise gave gifts to. For children, go to fairs and pow wows in the summer and buy odd, cheap little things to give the kids for Christmas. I've been doing this for a few years and the kids and adults love the stuff I send them, especially the Native American crafts. Shop yard sales, small businesses and and private, for sale ads during the year for kids gifts.
