I am a 57 year old Veteran and believe to be a victim of fraudulent mortgage. I purchased a home in 2004 through Keesler Federal Credit Union in Ocean Springs, MS. The Loan was utilizing the VA Mortgage Services, At the conception of the loan, I was informed that I would have to pay Private Mortgage Insurance, even though it was a VA Loan. I paid the PMI to Keesler Federal Credit Union, but they sold the loan to PHH Mortgage Service and I continued to pay the PMI for the next seven years. In 2009 due to the downfall of the economy on the Mississippi Gulf Coast I lost my job and couldn't pay my mortgage. I attempted to get a modification on the loan through PHH Mortgage but was asked to pay thousands of dollars to get the mortgage current and then pay a mortgage payment thousands of dollars about the original loan amount. None the less, I couldn't find adequate employment to continue living on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, moving to Georgia to live with my son. I attempting to regain my financial stability and received a letter from the VA stating that I was being held liable for the entire amount of the home loan $104000. I have written numerous letters to the VA, PHH Mortgage Service, Keesler Federal Credit Union and two State Senators without out receiving any explanations, information or assistance on this situation.
I have also been diagnosed PTSD by the Veteran Physicians and been placed in a disabled status. This has been over a year and can not get the VA in Atlanta to assist me in this matter. I followed the physicians recommendations and personally delivered the paperwork to the Atlanta VA Office. The only assistance I received there was. my paperwork was timed stamped, literlly thrown into a basket and told "we will call you". I asked the person attending the desk if there were anything else I needed do, he replied,'I said we will call you". Only later after contacting the VA Office in Washington DC, did I get the instruction on the proper way to file a claim, at least they was cooperative with me and held me get the claim filed, which was then turned over to the Atlanta Office. I've sent mountains of paperwork at their request only to be told "the documents didn't meet their requirements". I could go on on this, but my goal is to find someone who is in a similar situations and share ideas on how to handle this. I'm positive there are lots of Vets in the same position and I would like to help and share with them the information that I can obtain. Thank you for this opportunity to have my voice heard. I would also like information on how I can assist your Occupation of local, state and Federal Facilities to get people to hear what is really going on in our government with our Vets, homeless and other Americans that needs real assistance.
