If you want true equality between cooperate America and the Ninetyniners we should start with having an equal voice. This can only be achieved through passing a lobbing law that will limit any and all total contributions by one person or entity to $5000. This is the only way you can level the playing field. Other than focusing on this one crucial point, your efforts while most admirable will in the end prove to be futile.
It should go further than that. No corporate donations period, and the limit should be lower than $5000 per person. The difference would have to be made up by public election funding (more taxes unfortunately).
Absolutely. We can't allow corporations and Wall Street to bribe our politicians. We must begin by taking the money out of politics.
Many people I have talked to are coming to the conclusion that this is the root cause of most of the country's problems. It is a process. But many are making the connection. We have to keep working at it. Separation of money and state!
I agree -it will take time. If America stand up to the legalized bribery the corruption will slowly die off as many of the corrupt incumbents lose grip on power.
I hope it doesn't take that long! If this movement has enough strength I'm hoping the government will act. If we truly are 99% they will have little choice but to listen and act upon it. Weeks, months, hard to say. That is why we must continue to reach out and talk to people about the root cause and how our democracy has been diminished. When we have a true democracy again, and all voices are heard equally, the possiblities for greatness in our country is unlimited.
agreed
One Common Interest: End Corporate Lobbyists
from there all these other issues can be raised, debated, and voted on based on our representative government weighted one vote per one citizen.
Corporate lobbyists serve the interests of perhaps 1 in 1,000 of us. with those numbers I can imagine an end to the practice. One issue, one focus nearly all of us will agree on that will open the door to all the other issues being negotiated with our common interest in the forefront.
I think the next step in this process is for a single potent idea with broad support to emerge. agree? have another idea you think will do the job?
I do agree.
I agree - campaign finance reform needs to be the main goal of the protests, first and foremost. The legalized bribery has to end. Until it does our political process is not genuine.
