Forum Post: You Say You Want a Revolution

Looking over the arguments for OWS and the entire movement that's been springing up these past weeks, I'm noticing people proposing different things. Everyone seems to want money out of politics and return popular control to the people again. Others, however, are advocating a more drastic restructuring of our socioeconomic structure, including the elimination of capitalism.

Personally, I feel like the initial goals of reforming our system and removing corporate control from politics is a good one, and probably the only one attainable right now. But I also feel there are serious things wrong with capitalism and American society in general that, if not changed, will eventually end up destroying us.

So my question is: can we have a Second Revolution? Can capitalism be replaced by a new system, and if so, what? Should we just focus on reform, or should we think about a new form of government and society?

For those of you who doubt revolution, I remind you that America was founded on a revolution. It is not impossible to change this system. The question is how.

We need to begin this discussion openly, across the country.

Please be respectful in your thoughts.

Revolution of thought or physical revolution?

I think we need to be more like Cuba. They have socialism/communism and everyone there is happy. They receive better free healthcare than us and there is no wealth inequality like here. I support the elimination of capitalism in America
