Charts like this are shown almost every night on MSNBC by Ed or Rachel
Can OWS figure out the best way to fix this?

civil rights laws were passed in congress
women got the vote via congress
slaves were freed via congress
18 year olds got the vote via congress
prohibitioin was ended via congress

Can OWS figure out the best way to fix this?

Tweeting is something I wish #taxtherich would trend someday

If you are going to constantly promote working with Dems than you had damn well better get involved with them and get your butt down to the nearest office and get a real good taste of working in the system.

I will work with anyone who supports the 99% and can achieve our goals.

Why do you attack ME.
If you disagree with this statement, tell me why
IT is wrong
not why
I am wrong

Or explain what YOU would do instead to get to these goals:
civil rights laws
women got the vote slaves were freed
18 year olds got the vote
prohibitioin was ended

Like the above congressional actions, I believe in attainable goals & finding paths to get there.

specifically, what are your goals & paths - specifically

Specifically- actually getting involved with the people you claim will cater to you.

Give it a try. See how it works. And then decide if maybe its time to shake this system up a bit.

Ive been to hundreds of OWS meetings - ever heard of them?

[-] 0 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Going to hundreds of meetings means what? It means that you have been to hundreds of meetings. And like I said, if you have been to hundreds, I find it hard to believe that you havent found someone to do up your site a bit better.

If all roads lead to you working with Dems, depending on Dems, than why not get involved with Dems? Go down that road. You can only sit and debate how general stack works for so many hours.

There is a certain point where planning needs to move to action. Ive been deemed too political at times, and Im sure you have as well. But if you think that the Dems are save-able, then why would you not get involved? Why would you go to hundreds of meetings on MTA and never put something to together with em?

Petitions only go so far. They need to be delivered, and then someone has to force the issue down their fat throats.

Honestly, I dont have a lot of patience for people who claim that a certain path is the way to go, and have never walked down it themselves. I have very little patience for people who claim to back certain parties and never do anything with them.

We can only meet and plan, plan on the plans, plan on planning other plans later, so much. Did you not notice that around the same time that people stopped showing up? That this perpetual state of planning chases away all the good motivated organizers?

Im not speaking rocket science here, or even something unique to occupy. Its organizing 101. Go to all the meetings you want. The meeting have to produce something. And if you want to take in the Dem direction, then perhaps you make yourself the liason of the workgroup and local Dem headquarters..

Just a thought.

I plead guilty on the site. We would have used the OWS system, but it required membership to see the site. I have not done web work before and wanted it primarily as a library for people interested in CU & CP & the amendments.

I have been active in campaigns & see our role as pushing any candidate to support the amendment goal ( we got two - one D & one G [ the R refused ] )
I am a pragmatist and see no history or route to success that leads to the recovery of America for the 99% that does not lead thru the Democratic party. I do not "work" for the Democratic party because THAT is not my goal.
My goal is simple to state & hard to achive:
sever the connection between democracy & capitalism
by overturning citizens united & corporate personhood.

[-] 1 points by OTP (-203) from Tampa, FL 11 years ago

Right, but if that route can, in your view, only go through the democratic party, then you may want to get at least somewhat involved with them, to see what an absolute mess it has become since the stuff that you listed.

The duopoly makes OWS planning meetings look like nascar. You'll want to pull your hair out, and will quickly see why the only talent that either party can attract is the bottom of the barrel.

I've stated this before: My problem is not that anyone supports Dems or Reps or Greens or whatever...its their lack of action on actual actions. We have become conditioned to think that voting is all this is about, when in fact voting is the last, and quickest, step in the entire process. If everyone who was passionate gave 2 hours a month, we wouldnt be in this mess. We would be having real liberal vs conservative issues discussed, not this corporatist lame ass nonsense that really makes no sense on either side.

Activist for Activism. I have my own beliefs, but I know that until this sleeping population wakes up and decides to pull their collective heads out of their asses, then it is just pissing in the wind.

Perhaps it is time for an actual liason for the working groups and the system? At this point, it couldnt hurt? I, personally, think its a bad idea, but with the numbers where they are, compared to where they were, its time to do something different. So why not?

My working group HAS dealt directly with pols
And don't tell anyone, but our WG chucked consensus a long time ago.

Good video illustration of how middle and lower class are getting squished in last 30 years, to no net wealth.

Thanks.

Youre welcome.

Good chart show no trickle down, just evaporate up of money. Top .1 percent needs a 90 percent tax bracket, worldwide, dont let them hide.

If this country won't do it maybe others will.

I like transition tax for general fund and removing social security cap and applying tax to all income/cap gains/dividends to fix "entitlements" this would represent a real shift in wealth from the top 1% to the bottom 40% which we all know is very lopsided as shown with these graphs. Why not take real direct action to fix this, also eliminate special treatment for cap gains and dividends in income tax code that with transition tax would most likely bring us to balance, if not then we cut spending, maybe, or raise rates to maybe 50% at $500.000 that seems very fair to me.
