Looking at the latest drama surrounding OWS, we are seeing what happens when someone becomes a politically public figure. Otherwise known as teh public's personal whipping figure.
The committed can handle it- its worth the pain for the long term gain. But its getting people to that level of commitment that is the hard thing, and these types of situations resonate and stick in aspiring acitivists minds.
Who can handle this level of criticism.
Mods.
No offense but having an internet handle that people dislike for varying reasons is nothing compared to having your actual name dragged through the dirt on a national level by the very organization you support.
To think so may mean you are not quite there yet. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but its a level few are willing to go to.
that's why I don't do the judge forum
It is a very tough situation for people to decide on. Many, had no intention of that becoming the reality, but if the movement is successful then the attention will come regardless.
Social media is changing a lot in people's lives, privacy is a thing of the past. The current generation is growing up not understanding the concept of privacy period.
don't see why I need it
You just smeared me, on an international web site.
Not the first time either? Right?
You shouldn't have done that.
All I did was answer your question.
Comparing an internet handle for internet moderation on internet forums to seeing your physical name dragged through the mud could be interpretted as a bit of a smear on the current situation Justine is going through, dontcha think?
Just stating the two are pretty far apart. One is internet land, the other is real life with real friends and associates.
OIC, you're one of those people who don't actually follow the links.
I've seen lots of them around here.
Here's the conclusion.
"People like Justine Tunney and Sandy Nurse might play a role in whatever stages of the movement lie ahead, but perhaps we shouldn’t expect them to. Perhaps they’ve done enough. The question “What happened to Occupy?” should matter less for those who care about the movement’s values and aims than the question of what the rest of us will do next."
Where is this criticism of which you speak?
As a mod?
I've banned lots of people who actually DID drag her name through the mud on this very forum.
If was good at my job....you missed 'em.
Probably by the same puppets who've tried and still try, to do the same to me.
In the end?
That wasn't in your question. You added that after the fact.
I've handled and am still handling a great deal of criticism as a mod.
When people take to the streets to create political change, it put them at the mercy of the press. Social media played a large role in sparking Occupy, and it is also a major weapon in the oppositions hands.
Disinformation, professional sabatuers, etc are all common on social media. News channels would take a handful of activists, get their names, their voting records and criminal records, and exploit them. Comments sections would fill messages of laziness, etc.
The tools of activists are usually created beforehand by the very people they are fighting. In this case, internet technology.
Is this a threat?

Um, this has nothing to do with what you asked, nor a thing to do with my response to that question.
BTW. You've left an open question elsewhere.
You need to answer.
And Then There's Maude...
I don't remember Maude, but I do remember Mary and she told me she couldn't take all the harassment on this forum anymore and she left.
There were a few others I know who told me the same thing.
