Goldman Sux

The Occupy Movement is sponsoring a LetsGoSquidding campaign targeting Goldman Sux.

Some interesting information:

  • Coal investments

    • In November 2011, Goldman Sachs was listed as the number 11 top global financier of coal-fired power plants in a report complied by various environmental groups entitled, Bankrolling Climate Change: A Look into the Portfolios of the World's Largest Banks. The report noted that Goldman Sachs spent $5,392 million euros on coal plants around the world since 2005.[100]

    • Goldman Sachs is a major financier of new coal plant construction. New coal-fired power plants being funded by the company include: [a list of some 36 projects]

  • Coal as a Key to Climate Change Coal-fired power plant emissions represent about a third of global warming gases, but coal’s role in global warming is especially significant because of the size of coal reserves. James Hansen, director of NASA’s Goddard Space Institute, has advocated a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants and a phaseout of the existing coal fleet. Hansen has said that ending emissions from coal “is 80% of the solution to the global warming crisis.”

And you can easily find out more about some of their investment misdeeds at SourceWatch

Squidbillies. Our use of coal is like waging war against ourselves. I better insulate.

they are protesting at Burger King(no address as to which one) Holiday Inn, Best Western, Art Institute of New York, Zucotti Park, and the west side of City Hall, and the Crowne Plaza Hotel. I understand(to some extent) going to Goldmann Sachs(it is an anti-Goldmann rally, correct??), but why the other places??

heh.. I don't know. Maybe it's so that people who are not in NYC can go squidding at their local burger king? I must admit I am not entirely sure what squidding is. Does squidding entail eating lunch at burger king? . Or something more along the lines of protesting the "flame grilled" burger, since grilling uses goal? There is certainly much left to the imagination on that flyer.

You'd think they would be madder at McD's-or maybe they just don't like burgers that look the same after 3 years... And doesn't BK use gas?? Maybe they will get real squid to put on their faces?? I would enjoy seeing that.

eh, I hate all the fast food. I really don't know if they are part of the problem, but the food is god awful and certainly not suitable for consumption. Maybe they are going to catch the squid. You know, like fishing. And all the people that show up - are the bait. Maybe if enough bait is thrown out there, the squid will come out and it can be clubbed to death.
