I mean it's a wedge issue because it focuses on cultural differences. Also, it's hardly central to our well-being or democracy either way.
My point is that neither side of the issue has any serious impact.
1) Legal guns don't pose any serious public safety issue (compared to say, corn syrup, for example)
2) Taking away assault riffles and extended clips is not a serious threat to civil liberties (as opposed to police macing and beating peaceful college students protesting)

Gun control is just way too much "mothering" for me - everybody should have a defense and resource acquisition device, including the "violent offenders"; oops, what was I thinking.
