In many countries, November 11 is Remembrance Day. This year only, it is also World Freedom Day.
They are the same.
On Remembrance Day we recall the fallen in securing world peace and freedom in all the world's wars. They number in the millions.
On World Freedom Day we recall the fallen in securing world peace and freedom in the world's more recent freedom movements. They number in the thousands.
Those who fell in Arab Spring, or who may fall in the Occupy Together movement, struggled in pursuit of the same goals as those who fell in the world's wars.
They died to free the world from political control and economic enslavement. They lost their lives to bring the world peace, harmony and freedom.
On World Freedom Day we dedicate ourselves to peacefully finish what the fallen in all the world's wars began. On Nov. 11, remember all our fallen comrades and remember them with renewed appreciation and gratitude.
We remember too that we commit ourselves to finish what the fallen military began – to win for the entire world the peace and freedom they died for - and to win it non-violently.
On World Freedom Day, we celebrate their victory - and our victory.
