When we label ourselves and each other with these buzz words meant to garner support from other members of these like-minded organizations or slander individuals based on the context of the usage we are furthering the seperation of ideals and weakening ourselves as a whole. We need to get away from these age old archtypes that have been engraved into our minds for generations from an endless barrage of disinformation and propaganda. The bipartisan system leaves very little room for choice, in that you can choose for the guy with the red tie or the guy with the blue tie. I view this system as being fans of sports teams in that most people will route for the local team even if they really suck and don't ever win, simply because they don't have an alternative. The point is that all of these groups have their shortcomings and there isn't a single one that can claim superiority. We need to stop buying the brand names and really start reading the ingredients that make up these individuals. So please, lets all stop bickering at each other based on party affilliation. There are far more important things to be discussed.
I share this view of yours about the analogy between politics and organized sports. Yes even when their team sucks and is convicted of cheating they will continue to support them. But I think there are alternatives out there. its just that humans get pumped up with Pride about one outdated idea or another and can't let go of it because that would be admitting they had been wrong. I recently had to give up on a long standing notion of mine own. It was not easy.. but with more information I was forced to see things in a different light. and I see it as a growing experience. yes we can't always get what we want as mick says.. but if we're lucky maybe this time around we'll get what we need.
weatherman, you are correct, these terms and the ideology that goes with those who use them serve only to divide. The politicians like us divided though as it solidifies their base support who will never vote for the "other side" so all they have to do is work on the undecided independents by lying to them. Words like racist and Nazi have lost their power as their meaning has been so twisted to meet the basic definition of "someone that doesn't think like me".
