He drew a circle that shut me out-
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win;
We drew a circle that took him in.
That is beautiful.
Expand on that.
What happened after that?
The thing is to see what happens when you actually do that. Appeal to people's better nature. I've seen it work with people with mental illness, with felons, drug addicts, alcoholics. Many conservatives are religious. Appeal to the example of Jesus. It doesn't always work but it works more and more the more you learn how to do it.
Jesus was a liberal, and a political dissident.
More, he subdued an empire, and subverted a symbol of terror and oppression into a symbol of peace and of hope.
I find that quite remarkable.
That is the question, or should I say the dream, that calls us at this last hour.
