...against the major players in Wall Street. They would be unable to show up for work without coming within 100 ft of you, and therefore, if they are at work, they are in clear violation of the Law.
You don't understand how restraining orders work, do you?
You can't expect professional militarists to stop the will to fight. That is there function after all. Likewise with corporate heads. The whole point of corporations is to maximize profit through the intensification of exploitation. The best thing we could do for these corporate types is to find a nice tropical island for them to retire to.
I'm sorry, but this idea is sophomoric and reckless.
Do you have any idea how much human suffering would result if you were actually able to shut down Wall Street ? Do you have any idea what role they play in the world's economy? Have you studied the Great Depression in even the most superficial way?
Not all of Wall Street is bad, and not all players have been irresponsible or unethical. Condemning them wholesale is like declaring "all lawyers are evil," or "all politicians are corrupt." None of these oft repeated adages are even close to being accurate. Most of your fellow men are, well, just like you. They are on balance decent people who go to work everyday and do the best job they can. Their morals and ethics are on par with your own, and very few knowingly engage in unethical behavior.
If you were to shut down Wall Street, the world will come to a standstill. Very tempting for those lusting to show their power, but irresponsible. The people you will hurt the most are those you know and love, the average people of the world.
I see you took the time to read beyond the eye catching OP and title to see the long term effects that this would have (given the fact that the action would not work in the least bit as it would not be approved in the courts).
You are well thought out and well educated, I will give you that. As for your tendency to discredit and denounce threads at first glance... Take another look at what was said after I got a few responses and explained why it would benefit the Movement.
Argue those points.
I have read comments herein. No change in my opinion.
You seem intent on targeting those who you feel have done you harm. Can you take a moment to explain who precisely "is to blame" for your current situation ?
My situation is intirely on myself. Everyone needs to hold themselves accountable for their current situation in order to move on from it. It's easy to blame others for your problems, however... when people are in charge of making choices in "your best interest" and are voting against the platform in which they presented in order to get elected due to a campaign donor "calling in a favor"... that increases the problems in which I have to be accountable for.
And in being accountable for my own problems, I must recognize that it is within myself to change those problems. Supporting what the OWS is trying to accomplish is just one of the ways an individual can begin to change the things that are wrong in their lives in which other individuals had the choice and responsibility to prevent.
OK. Big check-mark for "personal responsibility." That's an AWESOME start.
What SKILLS do you have that might be of value to an employer ? Are they somewhat rare, in demand, and valuable to an employer ? If not, you're a COMMODITY and life will suck until you fix it !
Commodity: a good or service whose wide availability typically leads to smaller profit margins and diminishes the importance of factors (as brand name) other than price.
Product Differentiation: Done in order to demonstrate the unique aspects of a firm's product and create a sense of value. Marketing textbooks are firm on the point that differentiation must be valued by buyers.
Do NOT focus on the silly "sell yourself" aspects of differentiation as that will only lead you astray. Focus instead on developing your actual VALUE in the workplace. This is measured by your ability to aid in the generation of business versus the rarity of your skills (how hard you are to replace).
Demand + Scarcity = Wages and Security
Actually Cayce might have an idea here, if you know the law. But it would only work for 10-14 days. After that they would sue your ass into the stone age.
Your a freakin moron
Except you kinda have to have a REASON to give a restraining order. "I want one" is not a reason.
lol greatful? try "grateful" if you want to spell it right.
I will leave that unedited just for you. Smart people appreciate grammer and intelligent people appreciate ideas.
If you have any, I would love to hear them, however it seems like you have given up on our conversation and are pointing out mistakes in typing instead of mistakes in my way of thinking.
because i already pointed out oyur mistakes in thinking. and the way you spell IS the way you think :)
I'll choose not to get into this arguement, but I will point out that you should read your sentences verses mine. Punctuation? "oyur" instead of "your"? "lol"
thats a typo. theres a difference.
REAL American idiot.
no im not Canadian/ european/ whatever country simple plan is from
... I don't think you can just go get a restraining order for someone you don't even know and have nothing personal against.
You link them to the bad things they have done and how it has affected you. Applying for restraining orders in mass will have the same intentions of sending letters in mass to your state representatives.
The rest of us taxpayers will be just soooo glad of you tying up the courts with this nonsense.
Are they not already tied up in nonsense? You seem to assume that you speak for all other taxpayers side from myself...
You like a paycheck right? Do you want to spend 40 hours in a meaningless position at work? Most likely not... but you are willing to do it because in the end, the money you earn you get to spend.
This is no different. There are things that are done everyday that seem pointless and meaningless and end up improving lives in the future.
Yes, but a paycheck is an accomplishment of 40 hours of work. What you intend to do is waste resources for no gain. Not tolerable to this engineer.
That depends on what you would consider a "gain".
The majority of people right now are not actively involved or even discussing this Movement. If we could increase the number of people that realize how important it is to our future, then in my eyes, the resources and time are worth the effort and a lot will be gained.
One has to live under a rock to not know of the movement. You're only going to look very silly and piss of the more moderate crowd that is factoring in the very real cost of your shenanigans.
So you disagree with the shutting down of the city that's going on? Those truckers that are honking because they need to make that money for doing the job and this movement is stopping them?
Or what about those police officers who are taking the man power, time and tax payer dollars to come to those occupied places?
Before you go around and make assumptions for the rest of the world with comments like "One has to live under a rock..." go out and ask 10 strangers about the Occupy Wall Street Movement and see what is real verses your limited perception of what you expect the average person to know.
The truth is that this movement has already cost millions of dollars. And you are complaining about my idea that a "moderate crowd" who will be "factoring in the very real cost" will find is pennies on the dollar to what the rest of the Movement has already cost?
Believe me, we're factoring in the cost. Every penny. And no we are not happy. We who can make empires out of dirt and air are offended by this, movement. We are neither the 1% nor the 99%. We simply survive and thrive regardless of the circumstance. We find it disgusting to see the weaknesses of others marching through the streets of NY. And we are doubly unhappy that we have to shoulder the cost.
I understand your logic, but not your ego.
You speak as though you have authority to speak for anyone you choose to. So I will briefly play into your game...
$100,000,000.00 is just over 5,550 years worth of my time... if I worked 40 hours every single week at minimum wage. Given that there are people with a 100+ multiple of 100million, you are looking at people that have half a million years worth of one man's work.
Explain to me why it would offend you that people are standing up (and marching through the streets) against the people who are not only knowingly manipulating people, economies and governments... but also are actively seeking out to even further limit the rest of us.
Because you are stating that you need the field to be fair to win. Which is the same as saying you can never be prosperous as the field cannot ever be truly fair. I think I could not lower my dignity so far as to cry "unfair!"
They have their money to buy other people's time and to bribe other people's choices to get things changed.
We have OUR time. We are using what we have. We are not crying "unfair". We are shouting "CHANGE YOUR WAYS".
Do tell me what else we have besides our time and numbers to use?
Sigh... You have to understand that just because they do something "bad" doesn't mean they do something "illegal". You can't get a cop to write you up a restraining order because someone was mean to you, because it is not illegal to be mean. You have to have criminal evidence, and while I say what alot of people have done in the economy is VERY bad, the reason they do it is because of law loopholes.
I have no doubt that it wouldn't work, however... A news report on 1500 people filing for a restraining order against (Your choice of Wall Street) would have a great effect.
You seem to assume I'm thinking about this one step at a time...
Would it have an effect? The only people that would be dazzled by an act like that would be the ones who are already dazzled by OWS. Others would see it as a waste of time and completely impractical. Also, you would be wasting police resources and time. And they need all the time they have controlling OWS mobs. LOL
That depends on how well it was executed. If you divided it up between district courts, and within those district courts, you tied up several judges... Then they will talk about it amongst themselves.
OWS is getting aknowledgement and it is increasing its size and interest with the people through doing things that get world-wide attention.
Have you ever heard of thousands of people filing restraining orders against the same people? No. Not only will this work because it is the first time that it will have been done, but it will get the desired affect within the government as well.
Great. Use the system to bring the system down. Back in my day people thought of things like this as well, nothing new there. This is like watching a train wreck.
I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think they should do.
They're gonna do what they want and claim the '99 percent' is behind them. That's a given.
You think getting a restraining order on someone trying to make a living is a good idea to try to keep them from going to work? You seriously think that's a good idea? I'd LOVE for somebody to try to do that to me. I'd really really love it. Too bad I'm retired and work when I feel like it, well, other then tending to the farm.
It is not about getting them to not come into work. It is about them feeling like people are actually taking action against them.
It is not about using the law in a way that affects Wall Street. It is about getting people within the government to truely understand that real people are really angry enough to start "working" towards change.
It seems like everyone is only seeing the first step of my idea and telling me what is wrong with it or how it will not work. I'm painting a picture here, and people are telling me that the colors that I am choosing are wrong, yet they do not even understand what the painting will look like in the end.
No one seems to like to ask "why" or "how".
This way of thinking is whats keeping this bs going and will never work as long as at least half of Americans think for themselves.
Saying "this bs" could mean anything.
If you could define what you are talking about, I would love to hear you out.
It means this movement, your line of thinking, and this website.
The first step in changing your life is always the hardest one to make. But after you make that step you start to see a path to a possible future.
The real question is: What would you do differently?
You obviously made a profile for a reason. How would you go about making change in the wealth classes?
Find good candidates of strong moral character and get them into office. If you cant do that then there certainly isnt enough of you to revolutionize america.
You can't come into a system that has been set in place for a long time and expect to change it. You have to give people IN that system a reason to decide to change for themselves.
lol.... theyll talk about how much you ticked them off :)
Exactly. It will become a joke that they talk about often. You open their eyes to noticing more and more.
When you buy a car, you begin to notice all the cars that are the exact same make and model as the one you just bought. The human brain works this way because it will allow you to see the things that you find important.
The goal is to get people within the government to start actually paying attention to this.
..... I dont think you know how the human psyche works. present an uncomfortable situation, people try their hardest to NOT think about it. present unavoidable unignorable facts and ideas, THEN people will follow
So then you agree with me.
Make the judges listen to every case, get tied up in it, even though they do not want to waste their time in it but are required to...
Present for them the "Unavoidable unignorable fact.." that people will not stop unless they are aknowledged.
no, what you are doing is providing with a anger provoking uncomfortable situation that they are going to hate. nice try tho!
I hate to get pulled over by the police while I am driving. It is uncomfortable, I have to sit through the process and wait and explain myself. However, I am greatful that they are there.
I am in the minority in that way of thinking, and hopefully we can find a few in the government who will appreciate the fact that we are doing everything that we can to change this system we are stuck in.
