Forum Post: Why isn't the biggest crisis being talked about?

First let me just say that for the first time in a long, I feel like there is hope for us thanks to this movement. But the thing that concerns me the most, even more than the economy, is the climate. If there aren't some radical changes, and soon, we may not even have a planet to fight for anymore.

Why isn't the Keystone XL Pipeline on the front lines of conversation? If this thing gets passed, it's game over for all of us. And I'm sitting on top of the Marcellus Shale in upstate NY where Fracking is happening in areas near by and could happen here.

The technology is out there for us to build a clean energy economy and it's apparent that there are no plans to take us in that direction. I voted for Obama, even donated to his campaign, because I believed in him. I no longer do and I no longer believe in any politician.

We should be pushing for clean energy. That would bring millions of jobs and would help the economy.

Here is an article that I recently found. It's a few weeks old but pretty much sums up what I feel.

I pray that OWS pushes for clean energy as the #1 demand so that my children can grow to live an American dream and have families of their own.

Simply put a $5/gal gas tax We burn 150b gal/yr A tax would reduce consumption to maybe 125b-100b gal over time That's 500b or about 40% of our deficit Plus new tax bracket over $10mm of 10% Would close deficit for the most part

Yes you voted for Obama. Smart move. He did exactly what he said he was going to do when he campaigned. Now you complain. That's funny.

Why don't you vote for him again? So he can GIVE more of our money to green companies like Solyndra. That was half a billion down the shiter.

If you vote for him again, he'll put some money into taking back private property for Govt use. So douche bags like you can can have a place to camp out and be a delusional mob!

Don't start picking on the President. He's doing his job redistributing our hard earned wealth. Whatever we have left of it.

He needs you guys there in the park. He wants all of you all over the country, no the world to protest. He is the messiah of Marxism you have all been waiting for. He will give you what you deserve. Keep helping him. The movement has integrity.

Now wait on line for your food in little tin trays and do the good work the Messiah needs you to do.

I stopped reading after you called me a douche bag. I didn't realize that posting some concerns on this board would cause me to get attacked.

Naaah, I'm pretty sure you read the whole thing.

Giants or Bills?

Please pass this letter on to other Protestors - we need your help: Letter to Protestors against Greed

The rich and the bankers own our Government.

1 - To eliminate the greed we need to change how we elect our Congressional leaders. You can do this now by selecting your leaders to represent us in Congress.

2 - We need $0 Salary for politicians. Only expenses will be paid for those who serve in our government. This way, our leaders will work for the good of the people, not to serve special interest groups. Take this pledge and represent us now.

3 - We need term limits for political offices. This would mean our Congressional leaders would serve our country for 6 years, NOT become Career Politicians. This would help stop government corruption including government employees being hired for life. Follow this rule and use it as part of the platform we need.

4 - It looks like we currently have more protestors than we have citizens who actually vote. This shows that there needs to be a change in our government. This movement to “Occupy …. (Name the place)” can be truly effective by selecting people who can represent us in Washington.

5 - We need new representation to change the laws to help the “99% of the people”.

6 - Those who control the laws (rules), control the game and they control the money.

7 - Our police and military should remember that they are also part of the 99%, and if they are directed to break up the protestors they should recognize that the protestors are doing something good for the 99% by working peacefully for a new change.

8 - Our current system is not working for the 99%.

There is an immediate solution to global warming. For example, the 99%, as Home Town Banks of 65,000 Members, can divide themselves into 16,384 Vehicle Investment Groups of 4 Members, with each group of 4 Members purchasing a hybrid-diesel-hummer-limo Cab which they then put into their Town Cab Fleet of 16,384 Cabs. Why? Because this would reduce their Individual Transportation Costs by 75% (Cost of 1 Cab / 4 Members = 75% less cost per member), and yet they would have a Luxury Limo Cab available to them, out of 16,000 cabs in their Town, five minutes after calling for one, but not necessarily the specific luxury cab they own 25% of. This 75% reduction in Individual Transportation Costs -- for everyone -- reduces transportation prices by 75%, and thus money, by 75% (and let's not forget the lessening of Mother Nature's burden from having 75% fewer cars with no traffic jams). Furthermore, the list of simple productivity improvements like this one -- which the 99% want but the 1% don't want -- are endless. But first, the 99% must control the banks before they can control their Town (and National) design in this manner which is less costly (in terms of the worker hours to maintain it by 75% too) and yet have 75% greater luxury (such as a limo cab) at the same time. Consequently, to decentralize banking into a Direct Democracy is to lower cost 75% is to lower price 75% is to lower the existence of money by 75%, and eventually, to lower prices to near zero through automation, nanotechnology, etc, but ONLY as bank owner-voters.

I am all for clean energy. I know the human race one day will figure it out. It is not ready or practical yet. It needs to evolve. You can't just go BANG..here's clean energy. While we approach those goals, we nedd to have the resources to be able to provide the technology needed to advance the cleaner technology. There is no reason we should be getting those resources from outside influences. That is delaying the progress of innovation, hurting the economy, and losing jobs.

yeah, we need to remember that the economy is contained within the environment, it isn't a subset of the economy. there will be no economy on a dead planet. ending nuclear energy needs to be in the focus as well. we're losing topsoil and destroying the fisheries all while poisoning ourselves from the whole nuke process, hydrofracking, coal mining/burning, etc. not to mention climate change. this stuff needs to be front and center. our real wealth is water, air, soil and the sun!
