The New York Times' Sanders coverage is intellectually dishonest.

By William Boardman / Reader Supported News July 17, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 9, 2015:- U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (Independent -Vermont) speaks at a luncheon at the National Press Club Photo Credit: Albert H. Teich / Shutterstock.com

The front page story is about such issues as “work force anxieties,” “shrinking middle class,” “stagnant wages,” and a growing income gap at pre-Depression levels. The candidate who has been raising these issues longer and louder than any others is Bernie Sanders. Yet the New York Times story about these issues does not even mention Bernie Sanders, although it mentions others with less credibility.

That is the level of intellectual dishonesty actually achieved by the Times in its July 13 page one story headlined “Growth in the ‘Gig Economy’ Fuels Work Force Anxieties.” Two of the most relevant words excluded from the 1700-word story are “Bernie Sanders,” even though it includes two Republican and Hillary Clinton.

It’s intellectually dishonest to write about these issues without mentioning the Independent senator from Vermont now running for the Democratic nomination for president as a Democratic Socialist. It is also deceitful and would be journalistic malpractice for anyone purporting to practice actual journalism....

“There is nothing in the record of the past two years when both houses of Congress have been controlled by the Republican Party, which can lead any person to believe that those promises will be fulfilled in the future. They follow the Hitler line—no matter how big the lie; repeat it often enough and the masses will regard it as truth.”

President John F. Kennedy stated the quote above, but it could very well be a quote on one of the many memes floating around the Internet of Bernie Sanders. Just as the 1960s needed a president like John F. Kennedy to push forth progress on the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964 from the conservative stronghold at the time that held firm on their power and prejudices, America needs a president like Bernie Sanders to mitigate the civil wrongs being perpetuated today by a government being increasingly influenced by enormously wealthy interests. John F. Kennedy defended his liberal views in his 1960 presidential party nomination acceptance speech by declaring, “If by a ‘Liberal’ they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people—their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties—someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a ‘Liberal,’ then I’m proud to say I’m a ‘Liberal.’ ”

I agree with JFK.

Bernie's campaign and it's full message SHOULD be the LEAD story all across the media.

But instead the coverage goes to walking talking garbage like Trump.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

That's the beautiful thing about America, the people get to choose, if they will get off their asses and do it. There were 15,000 in Texas after 11,000 in Arizona I don't think anybody has ever got crowds like this nearly a year and a half from the election.

Everybody is talking about the GOP debates, but Hillary will have to face Bernie too.

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

The debates are rigged. They all agree what questions to ask and answer, no outsiders are let in, and they edit out stuff that would go against the goal.

Bernie is basically what Ron Paul was for the GOP after 8 years of Bush. 8 years of Obama its time to parade out someone genuine who is actually a decent person, have them rile up the base, and then plug in the usual idiot afterwards.

The fact Bernie said he's rolling with Hillary regardless should show you where his heart is anyways. He's not interested in shaking things up too much, just enough to get another Democrat victory.

BernieSoBlack? lol

Yeah everything is "fixed" no need to do anything, "they" run everything, you are a tool of the 1% spending your time convincing people to do nothing.

[-] 1 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 9 years ago

I saw @angryblackwoman at #Ferguson

he put in his time already, we need to just shut up.

I can't get this man to speak against war

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

another "do nothing" 1% tool

I can't get this man to do a damn thing

I speak against war all the time, but you cause more war, because you cannot both stop the GOP from winning while at the same time calling for for peace and some you allow the "bomb. bomb. bomb Iran" bunch to win and create more war, so you have more to bitch about, time to stop just speaking about war and do something about it it, KILL the GOP

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

Exactly. Bernie is motivating the people, so its blackout time.

This is what you get with the Democrat and Republican parties. They did the same thing to Ron Paul a few years ago.

Bernie is a good guy, but he's trying to build within a corrupted structure instead of outside of it, ala Occupy.

Do the same thing, get the same result. These people have been at it for 100 years. They arent going to let an old dude from Vermont trash the entire thing.

So do something constructive - remove assholes from government and replace em with people who will work for the people.

Yeah I know - you aren't gonna do that.

You will just bitch and moan and say that it can't be done.

Right?

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

I would think that you knew I work with a lot of indies and 3rd parties at this point but I guess that got lost on you over the years somehow? :)

You startin to lose your memory?

[-] 0 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

You never bring them up - so how would one know to associate you with any kind of political effort? Most of the time you are crying that nothing can be done.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

Why Is the NY Times Basically Doing a Blackout on Bernie Sanders?

Because Bernie is talking about removing big money from controlling government and returning government to the Whole population - this goes against the wealthy assholes agenda.

And it is a grassroots movement that is not targeted at one office (POTUS) - but is aimed at the full structure of government = LOCAL - STATE & FEDERAL = from the bottom to the top we need to make change "FOR THE PEOPLE"

On that note - here is another voice telling it like it is: http://act.boldprogressives.org/go/34044?refcode=e150801_1412-fin-3mo&amount=5&t=7&akid=28604.1568713.c-Kuz1

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

All I hear about is the GOP debates, when are we going to hear something about a Democratic debate?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

tweet -

Bernie's campaign & it's full message SHOULD b the LEAD story all across the media.

I cannot support a man that endorses US air strikes

OCD can be a terrible burden, I think we all know how your condition keeps you from actually doing anything, but I guess you sort of care, just not enough to act.

[-] 1 points by turbocharger (1756) 9 years ago

Not everyone turns a blind eye to the war machine. If you look at all that is wrong with our government, the senseless killing for profit is right at the center.

But you are a Democrat, never afraid to make a few heads roll for a buck.

Republicans and Democrats, the lowest forms of life on the planet. Money hungry war criminals.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

Not everyone turns a blind eye to all the GOP do as you do, you are a conservative only concerned about your tax bill, you don't give a damn about wealth inequality or anything that OWS stands for, so who the hell cares what you got to say?

Very Good question in the Post!

Read the alternet article, like it, share it.

Maybe because he could have a chance with his growing crowds, to change the game in Washington, let in other views and ideas.

I think bernie will also speak eloquently on Race issues soon, to much amazement, for speaking true to these issues.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I think bernie will also speak eloquently on Race issues soon

Bernie did expand his public address to include further denouncement of racism and to include a call for officers of the law who break the law to be held accountable for their crimes.

It would be wrong to say that Bernie has never addressed racism in his public outreach - and now he is doing more.

Expanding the conversation - forwarding the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MsMSyVQMh4

Main Stream Media - it's not for the public (Surgeon General Warns MSM could kill you).

Bernie Sanders did not allow Chuck Todd to spin his false narratives

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago

I saw this I thought the same thing, Bernie didn't even let Todd play the Netroots clip, but did you see where Todd is getting a daily hour on MSNBC?

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 9 years ago

I did not see that - but it figures - He's an idiot - so of course he is getting additional air time.

[-] 1 points by factsrfun (8342) from Phoenix, AZ 9 years ago
