I find it strange that the group that is arguable most oppressed by this movement is not vocal in it. One could argue that successful professionals are being hurt by the system more than anyone else.
Why does someone who makes $225,000 a year and actually pays their 35% tax rate think that it is ok that someone who makes $10,000,000 a year is paying 8%. We have moved our highest percentage tax burden from the very wealthy to the kind of wealthy. These are people who work hard and contribute to society. This group is full of doctors, lawyers and small business people who slave away from their money, and do not have the benefit of the tax loopholes of those above them.
I am not saying that the poor and low wage earners have it easy. I am not saying that we need to focus on the needs of the kind of rich. I am not trying to change the focus and direction of this movement. I am simply curious why the people that pay a tax rate 3, 4, or 5 times as much as the super wealthy are not speaking out about that inequality. If we could pull that segment of society into this movement it would add even more strength and validity than it already has.
As a slightly tangential point. I am trying to help organize the majority to make a difference on Capitol Hill. I am forming a lobbying organization designed to represent the interests of the majority. We welcome all perspectives and all walks of life. We will be polling our membership to determine what issues we will represent. Any issue that reaches 65% support or opposition, we will take up and contact our elected officials. If you are interested please take a minute to visit www.lobbydemocracy.com. I also have an active thread up discussing the nature of the organization. You can find that at http://www.occupywallst.org/forum/i-have-spent-1000-hours-on-this-solution-please-ta/
