Forum Post: Why doesn't General Assembly just agree to work on the major points?

Posted 13 years ago on Oct. 23, 2011, 12:43 a.m. EST by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

Instead of arguing/debating about specific policy proposals, the GA could just table those things and focus their energy on the universally agreed to suggestions. 1. Getting corporate money out of politics and 2. establishing a fair campaign/electoral system in its place (e.g. Publicly Financed funds, etc) My plan or what I think the best way is, is to get all the Occupy movements throughout the states to transport themselves to their respective statehouses (e.g. Wall Street goes to Albany, Occupy Philly goes to Harrisburg, etc) and from there we implement the Call for a Convention(s) I haven't thought out the transition details (that can be worked on by the GA) but after Phase 2, (cue epic music) the gauntlet will be thrown

Also someone needs to go to the GA and recommend this

sorry to double post this, I couldn't find my post on the forum!

Reforming a den of thieves is pie in the sky thinking. OWS 99ers could, however, make individual changes which when multiplied by tens of millions would have tremendous potential to shift paradigms.

This movement is to bring people together to fight against corporations. Not to put there own personal views on the table

[-] 3 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

well, thats what I'm saying!

[-] 2 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

This country needs 200 million leaders not a couple hundred

[-] 2 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

like I said Im not saying that, merely reccomending the GA move from "Debates" to implementing the already agreed upon policies

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

I know I'm not trying to ruin your ideas. I just Hope they keep bringing people together.

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

I am concerned over the fact that a fight almost broke out during a GA recently and there's been a deadlock where no ideas are being voted in favor of, some article on HuffPo mentioned this

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Well the huff post wants to make it look like the occupy movement don't know what we are doing. They are trying everything to discredit the movement. Occupy should start sueing for invasion of privacy like Nader did to gm.

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

So your saying there wasn't discord during the recent GA's? I thought the Huff Po is more supportive of this

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

No not really they may be better then sum but no they definetlyarent on the99%. As for what they said they are really blowing it out of proportion.

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

hmm...I'm really surprised, I always thought that HuffPo is a major veritable progressive news source, and as for It not being that bad, well that's encouraging

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Huffington post was just bought out recently too I think?? Can't remember by who?? Maybe fox news?? Or maybe they tried? I'm not for sure tho??

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Dantes I didn't remember and I'm not a spokesperson. I'm just discussing with this person and asking if sumone knew. I have MS and sumtimes I can't remember my own phone number jk. But honestly I didn't remember. But it's mainstream media either way

AOL

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

I think Murdoch tried to do a hostile takeover bid but he failed, I'm not sure myself

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

By AOL. Seriously, that was months ago. I hope your not a spokesmen for OWS.

Do you know who the current VP is? Can you tell me how many states there are? What's 2 +2?

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

Don't you get it. Anybody who points out facts about OWS is trying to discredit the movement. Antisemitism-plant. Rapist-just a homeless guy. Thieving-homeless again.

And if you get raped....shut the hell up!

troll alert

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

Just stating the facts. If OWS can get their shit together, then they'd be powerful. Answer me this, what is OWS's goal? If you paused, then it will be a failure. 5 weeks into it and there isn't a coherent message. And don't say we take all views into account...'cause that is just paving the road to failure.

Truth sucks sometime.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

They're not. OWS is losing members left and right.

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Where are u getting your numbers from??

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

Not pure numbers (although DC is dwindling fast. They had a spike last weekend due to the MLK memorial) But it's nothing now -1000). I used to work next to Freedom plaza and there were more people in a Union strike than there are there now. Maybe NYC is still strong, but the coverage is nowhere near it was a week ago.

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

I don't think this movement is dieing. It's picking up steam. I live in lil Saginaw michigan and we had 300 people who marched on friday

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

RC, the main problem is no coherent message. 300 is, umm , ok. But you ask those 300 what they're marching for you will get 300 responses.

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

That is because there is three hundred people! What are they supposed to be three hundred clones of each other??the message is to be heard and get rid of corporate corruption.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

No, even with OWS Main there is no coherent message. If the main goal is getting rid of corporate corruption then they should state that. And they would have a groundswell of support if that happens. And regarding being clones of one another, no, that's not what I'm saying. A simple example, you, myself and 10 other people want different toppings on a pizza. You and I want the same as another 4 people. The other 4 left over have their own toppings. Shouldn't we look at what overlaps and what we can order instead of stonewalling and then going hungry?

[-] 2 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

exactly wat I'm saying, I'm reccomending we focus on that instead of arguing about other more specific things

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

The man wants us too put opinions out there so he can use them against us so we fight amongst each other. We need to stay together. And rebuild the bonds of america

[-] 3 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

there's nothing wrong with opinions and debating, but we gotta keep our heads cool and work on what we can agree on and what we can compromise on

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Yep

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

Someone needs to head to the GA and convince them to get the ball rolling

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

so the next thing we should be debating/planning is the implementation of the major reform(s)

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 13 years ago

and the bonds to the world

mustn't be fighting the world

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

Dear Rant, exactly what authority do you suggest is enlisted to go after the corporations? Could I even wish that the mechanisms of Article V giving power over the federal government was my "own personal view".---

Article V is a 235 year old mechanism to preserve rights and freedoms.

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

The sec??? Nobody Is regulating them anymore.??

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

Are you suggesting the securities exchange commission will break from colluding in the destruction of documents, history, as was done with their documents in WTC7 on 9-11, in order to make corporations accountable?

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

No but that is what they are supposed to do right

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

Yep. Lets take that back to Ronald Raygun when he was de regulated the savings and loan industry while ollie north was lying to congress.-

This problem on this scale goes fairly far back.

[-] 1 points by RantCasey (782) from Saginaw, MI 13 years ago

Yeah they been deregulating since Reagan and none of them have stopped since.

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

Correct. The nwo infiltation of the US government ratcheted up bigtime with Raygun.

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

Right on, functional proposal using the highest law of the land shared by all Americans and respected by the world (mostly in the past). We are working to get groups on the same page with strategy, here.

http://www.articlevmeeting.info/

We are getting together in the evening on skype. Folks can join on that page.

[-] 0 points by dantes44 (431) from Alexandria, VA 13 years ago

Give 'em a break. There was a five minute discussion on the importance of drummers.

OWS, you failed. People would have gotten behind you if you stuck with the point of money out politics, no bailouts for corps. and banks.

Dustbin of history.

[-] 0 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Oh, so you want us to reveal the GA so that the media can tear them apart? No dice, stay in deep cover GA.

[-] 0 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

reveal the GA? deep cover? what do you mean? Isn't the GA open for the public?

[-] 1 points by DocWatson (109) 13 years ago

Sorry, I meant the key point persons, not the GA that meets in the open.

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

It is public.

[-] 0 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

exactly, so what's this guy talking about? Is he just trolling?

[-] 0 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

yes

[-] 0 points by jamesvapor (221) 13 years ago

do you want to over turn the GA now or , wait till they are in power ?

[-] 2 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

not really, i'm just saying that the GA should focus on the universally agreed-to and ubiquitous message of Occupy Wall Street and that's 1. Getting corporate money out of politics and 2. establishing a fair campaign/electoral system in its place (e.g. Publicly Financed funds, etc)

[-] 0 points by jamesvapor (221) 13 years ago

lets assume the founders of the USA were asked the same question when making the framework for our country. and decieded to build in a system to do that legally. we should them make the same "get out of jail free" card for the next generation that gets screwed over.

[-] 2 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

as a matter of fact, that's already there! the right to call a constitutional convention!

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

that's true yeah

[-] 1 points by jamesvapor (221) 13 years ago

can we keep that part or put in an express lane then ?

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

definitely keep it, hell make it new and improved and easier to do! Article V 2.0

[-] 1 points by jamesvapor (221) 13 years ago

count me in, if it works i assume i will get a letter in the mail and not a machine gun at my door step.

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

well somebody should go to a GA and tell them this, I would do it myself if I could

[-] 1 points by constitutionalconvention (59) from Queens, NY 13 years ago

why overturn the GA?
