Forum Post: Why blockade?!

I intend to come tomorrow morning but not to be part of a blockade. I tried to speak to facilitators tonight to question this intention; I understood that there would be a discussion tonight about it, but at least here at the OWS site it seems a foregone conclusion. Was this taken up at a GA meeting? Confrontation of any sort will have such a negative effect! It would have been better for every single person to leave the park tomorrow morning, and let the cleaners go through undeterred. That would have really blown everyone's mind. The new rules will not be effected by forming a blockade. The owners and the city would be much more open to negotiation about the rules if there is no confrontation. I would love to know what kind of conversation has transpired about this. It seems absolutely crazy to put up this generic blockade manual for what is a highly specific situation, with a tremendous number of people skilled in civil disobedience but more importantly, with very detailed understanding of the situation on the ground.
