Forum Post: Why are we not occupying the senate to get the jobs bill passed? Is that not as important as anything right now?

Portions of the jobs act just failed again in the senate which means that all republican senators and even some democrat senators voted against it. We need to get people out there in droves to force at least the democrats to vote for it. Thoughts?

I don't think jobs can be legislated, or created by legislation.-

We need an Article V convention.

Congress is very afraid of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_to_propose_amendments_to_the_United_States_Constitution "Congress acted preemptively to propose the amendments instead. At least four amendments (the Seventeenth, Twenty-First, Twenty-Second, and Twenty-Fifth Amendments) have been identified as being proposed by Congress at least partly in response to the threat of an Article V convention."

Our first right in our contract is Article V, the right to have congress convene delgates when 2/3 of the states have applied for an amendatory convention.

Article. V.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

Isn't there an Occupy DC? I can say there certainly should be protests outside Congress. Washington and Wall St are in lockstep. One offers money, the other takes it. As for the jobs bill, I would say it's very little very late. At this point the OWS movement should be looking many steps ahead to real tangible, longterm changes in our approach to the economy and standards of living. The Proposed List of Demands is a better use of time and energy and start now getting candidates for local and state elections that really support and articulate our problems.

Yes I think you are right. We should be making the point that we are tired of their incompetence. They don't work for us; they work for their wealthy masters.

Occupy the legislature. We need to grow; then we need to take back our government. We need honest representation. Our vote is all we have, and we had better use it.

OWS wil not be successful unless we make a difference in congress. We must reform the funding and lobbying.

We do not have representation any more. Only the 1% does. They buy it.

This is at the core of all of the problems we suffer in America today.

Building roads and schools that we already have will lead us to a more prosperous future!

Well, this might be a good place to see if there are like minded people who would like to join you.

I personally would like to see a much deeper change than anything Obama has been so far proposing. Everything I've seen is status quo - bound to fail and get us nowhere.

So I'm not very inspired to stand behind his jobs bill. But that's just me. I'd like to see a candidate who is passionate about real change.

Yes. This would be a perfect opportunity for a new party to begin, a people's party, if you will. If ever there was a time for a third party success, it is now. Maybe someone associated with or inspired by the movement will step up in 2012.
