Can anyone explain to me why goods made in China cost less in the US than in China? I know someone from China that recently visited the US, bought 2 suitcases, and filled them with goods made in China because they cost her less in the US than they would have back home in Beijing? Is dumping of goods to a foreign country at less than cost not against the law? More importantly, why is no one else (our "representatives" in Congress, for example) asking these questions?
it's harder to compete in the american market.
there are fewer varieties of goods in the chinese market, hence consumers tend to buy the same few goods and bid up their price.
there are more varieties of goods in our market. more brands, more competitors, more shops, more good stuff and more cheap stuff. hence sellers bid down the prices so that they can let go of their stock.
