While you're marching asking for more, who's paying your unemployment? ...Mmmm...probably that bad, bad 1%. Why don't you get a job, even if it's not the one you want. Then work hard, show some initiative, work extra hours. Then get promoted or find another job, go the extra mile, be creative, & work your way up. That's what most of the 1% did. THAT my friend is the American Dream. If you don't like it, move somewhere else.
The taxes we paid all the years we worked?
Not unemployed at present but when I collected way back when, that's how I looked at it, plus I live in a state that has a dedicated unemployment tax on all workers.
First, You dont really get what we are about. Do more research. Stay a while and learn what we are saying.
Second, that is not how most of the rich got wealthy. Some did do that, some did it by innovation. But a majority of the wealthy get and stay wealthy by exploiting.
Third, I dont think you ever been at poverty level.
Fourth, I dont think you know where unemployment comes from either. Its an insurance program. You pay into unemployment. You may not see it but you do. It is part of a mandatory "benefits package" an employer must provide for you( at least where i live it is). Workman's Compensation is also part of this.
I'm sorry to tell you this but most people got wealthy by selling either a product or service, or by working an upper-middle class job for 20 years.
And yes, there have been people who have exploited others. You are exploiting popular frustration about the economy today.
Most wealthy people got wealthy through things like stock manipulation. ever heard the saying "Dont work for your money, make your money work for you"?
You want to believe they got there through hard work. But they didnt. It may of started that way. Then many of them converted to "exploitation" of something.
The rich exploit the lower classes to make bigger profits. If you dont understand this you really need to take a good look at how a typical corporation type business is run. A good example here: America loses all of its industry to china because china has cheaper labor.BUT the price of products do not go down even though the quality does. Now, the chinese cost of living is going up and one american produces as much as four chinese, it is no longer beneficial to use chinese labor. Now business is starting to come back to america from china.
This is exploiting labor. Their are many examples of this. I could write you a book on how corporations increase their bottom line at the expense of others. Instead of just making a product selling it and take the profit they get off it.
Here is another example. I do not have exact numbers because i dont have the article. An Iphone retails for around $499( without contract) lets say. The cost to make that phone is about $167. That is not capitalism that is rape.
If you buy the same phone on contract you get it for $200. Which is way more reasonable. But then you are stuck in a two year contract for service. So again you are hooked.
A store sells you a 44 oz fountain soda for $1.29 lets say. It cost them about 20 cents for everything need for the soda. That is over a 500% profit margin and you usually have to make it yourself. In a typical fountain soda, the cup and the lid cost about 8-10 cents. The ice cost is marginal if they have their own ice maker and almost all of them do. The syrup is $50-60 i think for a 5 gal bag but a bag makes thousands of sodas.. CO2 is like $100 a tank but it will do thousands of sodas for a skinny upright. And then water is marginal in cost.
Welcome to Exploitism.
A majority of people get rich by exploitation? Are you serious ?
Yes what think of as capitalism is really exploitation. They take advantage of people, the environment, situations.
Look at the banks. And other examples i gave to plasmastorm above.
I did just that. Then my job moved to China thanks to guys like you who voted for corrupt politicians who gave them most favored nation trading status. There is one good part though. You get to pay higher taxes to cover those of us who lost our jobs due to "free" trade.
