Forum Post: Who do you think I am?

Posted 12 years ago on Dec. 19, 2011, 6:43 a.m. EST by toonces (-117)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I oppose the views and solutions of the OWS. I keep getting responses that accuse me of being greedy and not wanting to share my wealth. I sure don't feel like I am inordinately wealth in terms of an average American.

I am thinking that if you live in the United States, you are already the wealthiest 1% when compared to the rest of the world and the desire to destroy capitalism and the rewrite the Constitution.

Who do you think I am to have a different viewpoint than you do?

So oppose them. That is your right as an American.

I'm not in favor of rewriting the constitution either - although I am in favor of Amending it, for the purpose of getting corporate money out of political advertising.

I don't mind scientific debate - but I don't want corporations paying scientists to lie . . .

And when granma puts money away in her retirement account, I don't want some clever wall street guy to team up with an out of work physicist to determine the best means of robbing her. That's outrageous.

You don't agree, that's fine.

Just don't get caught with your fingers in granma's cookie jar - cuz you'll get your fingers broke.

In this statement of yours you used the term I ------- 6 times. You have the mentality of the 1% - everything is in reference to what you can get or gain-- ( self centered ) ows is not concerned with I - they want what is best for everyone. ows is a WE organization. http://1vbd3.cjb.net

[-] -1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Fair enough.

How do "they" propose to go about getting what is best for "everyone"?

[-] 3 points by twiggy (24) 12 years ago

The earths natural resources -good and services - have been unevenly distributed - favoring the rich and powerful. causing death and suffering among the worlds children- No one should live in a mansion, fly in private jets and spend millions of dollars a day on them selves while the worlds children are dieing of starvation.

[-] -1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

1... you did not answer my question, "How do "they" propose to go about getting what is best for "everyone"?"

2... Doesn't seem to bother you that you have more than you need. Who determines what is "excess" and what is earned and allowable as a perk of what one has earned?

[-] 2 points by twiggy (24) 12 years ago

If we see corruption, we ask it to stop- if it doesn't stop- we remove the source of the corruption. we will think about your questions after we remove the problem

[-] -1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Five hours of propaganda crap to describe who you think I am?

Not going to waste my time. You, sir/ma'am, have a far more involved imagination about my life than my life involves.

Pretty much involves loving my wife, working, paying my bills, and playing a bit of golf and bowling every now and then.

Don't take it personally, George Carlin is a RoBo reply. It is sent to all the girls and boys.

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Thanks for the explanation. It is hard to tell a robo answer from an actual answer from an OWS supporter.

[-] 2 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

You are a discontinued CGI cat from SNL.

[-] -1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

LOL... I think toonces might have predated CGI... I think there was a hand up toonces ass making him do the things they wanted him to do.

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Touche!

You are a video composite.

However, I did bring to light the anal fixation, of yet another anti-OWS poster.

[-] 2 points by VerySmart (2) 12 years ago

Maybe an asshole ?

[-] -1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Sorry, no, I am not an OWS supporter.

[-] 2 points by Nasa (33) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Proudly Iam a big supporter of OWS and never was an asshole.

[-] 2 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

I think you are someone who has grossly misjudged the core message of ows, which stands against injustice. Read the ows declaration and tell me where it says anything about a desire to destroy capitalism. All I see is a desire to clean house of unethical behavior & practices.

Interesting.

I just tried to create an account over there. They won't let me use ZenDog or about ten other permutations of it.

the fuckers

there's only one me.

I had no problem. ??

[-] 1 points by ZenDogTroll (13032) from South Burlington, VT 12 years ago

go figure

so it really IS just me.

That makes me feel special.

I was going to post this in support of one of the items on the declaration, regarding education:

Our history is a part of us, who we are and how we came to be what we are. We, this generation, owe it to the next to provide that information to them, so that they can see the patterns that exist in history and continue the journey of the human race into a future of peace and prosperity, a place where human dignity and human rights have real meaning and value.

Literature is a big part of that learning, of culture, of origin.

Math and Science - these too have history, and cultural roots, some of which impact political considerations of eons past. Issues such as earth is flat-ism are repeating themselves now. To know and understand one's history is to be armed with the knowledge of how things may be shaped today, and to what end.

Math and science are the foundation of civilization - without them we cannot maintain all we have built.

That we place the next generation in bondage while we meet our own obligation to them - is surreal and absurd, some abstract rendering of Dante's deepest circle rendered whole upon the canvas of life.

And so it is true - the whole world has gone mad . . . .

[-] -3 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Who are "they"? They seems a bit ambiguous for a declaration. If by "they" you are talking about corporations, corporations are people. They are started by people, run by people, employ people, provide secure investment for people, and have a vested interest in how the government is run.

OWS seems to me to be attacking the wrong player in the game. It seems to me that government has far more culpability than corporations do, as corporations do not creat law.

[-] 2 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

You cannot be that naive. So I'll assume you're very misguided or very clever and wasting my time. But I'm a nice guy so I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt and explain.

The 'they' referred to is corporate forces.

"As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies."

"They have donated large sums of money to politicians, who are responsible for regulating them."

(insinuating that corporate forces run the government, which most people know as truth, unless they are frighteningly naive)

"They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility."

(this is the part that makes corporate forces even more influential and where we need a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United ruling)

So if you connect the simple dots here, corporate forces (special interests) heavily influence and lobby government with cash and thus, corporate forces buy politicians and the power to get laws created.

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

The "simple dots" as I see them is that OWS has misplaced their ire. They should be upset at government, not corporations.

[-] 2 points by JadedCitizen (4277) 12 years ago

The corporations face all the culpability. They own the media, which are corporate forces, that influence what facts get distributed and they also pay the cash to influence who gets elected. They decide who creates the laws. It is a vicious cycle. The elected officials, or governing body, are merely pawns in the process.

[-] 1 points by gsw (3420) from Woodbridge Township, NJ 12 years ago

OWS seems to me a voice for those also upset at politicians of both parties, who take the money (or campaign contributions) or who act on inside-trader information and make side deals, from which they are immune from insider-trade law, or rotate out of government to become high-paid lobbyists who influence paid-for politicos to write law that favors corporate welfare, and corporations who don't have to pay taxes, cause they have hundreds of lawyers, and send the profit oversees, along with jobs, so as there is no money left in the system for the rest of us to divy up....the top 1 percent income has risen over 240 percent in 30 years, while the majority has declined. Both sides of the political game are playing us like fools, and taking our and our children and grandchildren's future, and I, personally, am fed up with it, and if it does not change, I plan to head south of the border, purchase a small plot for cash, build my simple self-built home, and grow/fish my own food. I've worked 23 years, trying to "buy my house", after putting my small inheritance and 23 years work, the bank has been "renting" it to me, taking my interest payments, and then they have the audacity to sell a whole bunch of bad product-loans, and repackage them multiple times the worthless junk mortgages and sell them as AAA rated goods, and crash the economy as they enrich themselves. I've been playing by the rules, but can't seem to get ahead, and it is much worse for the younger generation, cause they're stuck with the debt from unpaid for wars and tax-breaks for the rich. So I am mad at both politicians, and unethical corporations. So I agree, we're mad at both government, for allowing them and profiting from the corporations, and the corporations. Sorry if it comes accross as hostile, but yea, I'm upset that they all keep doing the same crap, and the citizens keep playing the same game, sending them back, taking sides, pointing fingers, and not solving problems. They are the welfare queens which the republicans should be attacking, not abetting.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 12 years ago

When you have lobbyists writing the laws, and just handing them to Senators and Representatives to pass, and the process is hidden, they are creating law. When you have a lobbyist with a "pledge" blackmailing Senators and Representatives into limiting the range of options for balancing the budget, they are creating law.

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Still seems like a government problem to me. I could write a law and it would be up the government officials to legitimately enact it. Still seems to me like OWS problem is more with government than corporations.

[-] 1 points by cmt (1195) from Tolland, CT 12 years ago

In the sense that limiting corporate power over government must be done by changing things on the government side, you are right.

The greed, however, shown by the loss of compensation (which includes benefits) by the middle class while the top executive pay has skyrocketed and jobs have been moved overseas - - that is a problem with corporations. I recommend the books The Retirement Heist, as well as Pay without Performance. Although the second book is older, it is supported by research in the intervening years.

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

The jobs were moved over seas because the government made laws that made it more economically beneficial to hire a workforce overseas. Still seems to me like a government problem rather than a corporate problem.

The myth of being a rich American. Easy perspective by many in this world living outside of the USA.

A different reality for most living in the USA.

[-] 1 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

I live in the USA.

[-] 1 points by Shule (2638) 12 years ago

I'm sure there are plenty of commies and lefties out there in the OWS movement, but I think the truth is few in OWS are actually out to destroy our capitalist system, or rewrite the constitution. Most in OWS are just asking to stop the corruption in the system that is ripping 99% of us off.

Now, respectfully I say, if you actually believe the average american is within the wealthiest 1% of the world, then you have not travelled much overseas. Although there are plenty of poor people in this world to go around, many, many countries have populations that are much better off than we are here in the States.

(Please spare me the "go to France" comments.)

If I had to bet, I would think you are a white male divorced Bible-believing, global-warming-denying Christian from a small town. How'd I do?

[-] 1 points by Nasa (33) from Brooklyn, NY 12 years ago

Exactly. Thanks for answer!

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Married

Agnostic

Anthropomorphic global warming denier who would be glad to debate you in a different format, but you would have to concede because the facts don't support an anthropomorphic conclusion.

Not too bad... if you were shooting at me, I would still be alive.

[-] 1 points by AFarewellToKings (1486) 12 years ago

I notice below that you mention a wife but are silent on kids. Double income no kids? Baby boomer with adult kids? Young couple watching the bio-clock tick?

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Grown kids. They live out of state. Love them, just don't see them much.

[-] 1 points by AFarewellToKings (1486) 12 years ago

Have you asked them what they think of OWS? Do you have grandkids?

[-] 0 points by toonces (-117) 12 years ago

Yes, I have asked. They think they should not have to work and just be taken care of just like the OWS crowd... Of course I am hoping they will grow out of that mindset by the time they are ten or so.
