Who Actually Owns the Fed and Why That Must End:
"Some people think that the Federal Reserve Banks are United States Government institutions. They are private monopolies which prey upon the people of these United States for the benefit of themselves and their foreign customers; foreign and domestic speculators and swindlers; and rich and predatory money lenders."
– The Honorable Louis McFadden, Chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee in the 1930s

Informative post.
Another good text is "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin.
Central Banking has been around since the worlds oldest Central Bank (Rijksbank) was founded in Sweden in the 1600's to help contain the expanding Russian empire.
Some argument is to be made the the access to "cheap credit" afforded by Central Banks has contributed to expansionary wars.
