The MSM is characterizing OWS as an unorganized mob with no clear message other than they "hate the wealthy." Simple, clear and concise demands need to be communicated in the form of "sound bites" for this movement to gain momentum. I would like to suggest four points for all to adopt and communicate with a loud voice as follows:

1. END THE FEDERAL RESERVE.

Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution gives power to Congress to “coin money and regulate the value thereof.” John F. Kennedy was the last President that attempted to restore this power back to where it belonged. The Federal Reserve is a private bank that is owned by powerful international banking families. The “Federal Reserve” is as “Federal” as is “Federal Express.”

2. END THE FEDERAL INCOME TAX AND THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE.

Adopt a Federal value added tax (VAT) OR a flat tax that is fair to all.

A VAT would fairly tax all individuals and corporations based on consumption with unprepared food and medicines being exempted from taxation. Those who can afford to purchase a luxury yacht, a private jet, a mansion with an ocean view and lavish dining at an exquisite restaurant would pay a much higher amount in consumption taxes whereas those who can only afford a picture of a yacht, a round-trip airline ticket to go to visit grandma for Christmas, a studio apartment with a parking lot view and an occasional meal at McDonalds would pay much lower taxes for their consumption. It would take very few federal employees to administer this form of taxation.

A flat tax would tax all individuals and corporations at the same percentage of their income with no deductions and no exemptions, regardless of how the income is derived. A federal tax return, regardless of the amount of income should be no longer than one page and the corresponding regulations should be no longer than 25 to 30 pages.

Either one of these forms of taxation would serve to eliminate lobbyists and corrupt politicians.

3. END ALL WARS AND ALL FOREIGN OCCUPATIONS THAT UTILIZE OUR MILITARY.

Our military should continue to be the best and most well equipped in the world but should be utilized to protect our borders from illegal invaders. Bring the troops home and see how quickly we can begin to reduce our federal debt.

4. IMPOSE SUBSTANTIAL TARIFFS ON GOODS AND SERVICES THAT ARE PRODUCED BY U.S. CORPORATIONS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

The United States is still the biggest market in the world. U.S. Corporations that have manufacturing operations in China, Mexico, India and other countries so as to exploit lower labor costs should be required to pay high tariffs to sell their products in the United States. I have no doubt that most of those manufacturing jobs would move back to the United States if those high tariffs were to be imposed! Let’s once again be proud of the “MADE IN THE U.S.A.” label on products that we use!

And we vote for Ron Paul...

4: obviously not someone who actually manufactures things. We couldn't afford the price of things manufactured by the basic uneducated, unskilled labor that exists inside the USA. We may be educated in Shakespeare but see how many people can identify the anode of a diode?

Your point is well taken (even though solid state diodes don't have anodes or cathodes, just polarity)! Not to long ago we and the Germans manufactured the great products and the great machines of the world. We had a vast skilled labor force. We manufactured everything from quality bottle openers to spacecraft that were capable of landing on the moon and then returning to earth. What has happened to us in the last thirty or forty years? We started outsourcing to foreign countries. Manufacturing jobs started disappearing due to greedy corporations trying to enhance their profit margins and because of greedy and corrupt unions demanding more and more. They finally killed the goose that was laying the golden eggs.

Universities started to churn out parasitic lawyers, non-producing MBA's and useless liberal arts students. What has happened to the prestige of completing a curriculum at a good trade school? You are indeed correct that we have transformed into a services-based economy from being the greatest manufacturing and technology economy that the world has ever known. We are still innovative but we export our technology to countries like China, Mexico, India and others where we exploit cheaper labor markets for the manufacturing process due to the greed of multinational corporations.

My forth point suggests that we impose substantial tariffs on companies like GE, GM, Honeywell, Whirlpool and numerous others who choose to manufacture their products in other countries for consumption in the U.S.A. Perhaps these companies would reconsider off-shoring all of these jobs and bring them back home. Sure, prices for these products may increase a bit, but with more people working in this country, more folks would surely purchase these products made in the good ole U.S.A. We also need for more states to adopt "right to work" laws whereby union membership is optional.

I'm an "old school" engineer soon to be sixty, and I have told my five children all of whom are employed (one of which has a degree in physics working as an engineer, a computer scientist, a firefighter, a stone mason and a dental hygienist) that I have lived the best years that this country has had to offer and that I fear that I will live to see the worst years ahead if we don't drastically change our ways!

put a diode in backwards and the rectification won't be what you expect :)

As an equally "old school" engineering, I couldn't manufacture my particular devices (which is in every portable electronic device) in the USA due to environmental rules, so everything has to be made in Korea..

My kids are employed as well, just a few weeks out of college, which says something for practical parents! (congrats on having productive kids!)

another of the 53

My point exactly! The environmental rules that you are referring to were a product of the parasitic lawyers and the useless liberal arts majors!
