I think we should all wait in line in stores as customers then go in and buy something for a dollar then leave. If enough of us do that it will disrupt them. They can't say we are protestors because we are just buying stuff. Its not our fault the 1 % has made us so broke we can only spend 1 dollar...
Flood the lines with an item in hand. If you feel the wait gets too long...set it down and leave. You have that right as a consumer.
I have a few ideas that will combine the best of the two worlds. You get to spread holiday cheer and stick it to corporations in one fell swoop!
1) Promote local shops and put big box stores on the naughty list. No Walmart, No Fred Meyer, No Future Shop, No Best buy, and no COSTCO! Just local shops.
2) Pledge to only buy gifts that doesn't exceed more than 100$. Goodbye crass-commercialism.
3) Pledge to only PAY CASH! No credit cards or debit cards. If you don't use those, no credit card fees, no banking fees.
4) Food-wise. Don't buy from your local mega-mart, but rather support the local grocers with food you know comes from local farmers.
5) Turn off the tv during the holidays (Or at the very least, turn to alternative media. No corporate tv channels).
6) Do make a donation to your local soup-kitchen. Be it money, time or goods.
Anyone care to add to this?
Also, type in "Black Friday" at change.org and sign the petitions to push back the start times so people can have dinner with their families. The Target and Best Buy petitions have a good deal of support already.
Sure - make life miserable for the souls who work on these days. Believe me - they will feel SO grateful to you. The low level employees and shoppers - these are the only people you impact. God are you all really this ignorant? I keep thinking "surely not" but ......
You're absolutely right. Just be there in the store. Theire's no need to be a customer. Just wander around looking for a couple of hours, and then leave. Call that Occupy Black Friday. As for the store employees, they will paid anyhow whether you actually buy anything or not. It's called a form of non-violent disrption by the force of numbers. To make your protest more known, ask a manager, "How much is this item (point to one)", No matter what the answer is say,"I'm sorry, with today's economy, I just can't afford that."
Have you seen the movie DALLAS ?! Do you want to get rid of cunning people (J.R.)!? Vote petition on the Internet : http://wh.gov/jkl
What can one buy for one dollar now? The best new product I can think of for under a buck is a can of beans. I'm not going to wait in line for hours for a can of beans. I'm just not going to support the businesses I despise. . .ever. You wouldn't catch me dead in Best Buy, Walmart, CostCo, Target, et al. But I'm not going to buy a dollar's worth of tube socks on the 25th., I'll be having leftover's from my local co-op.
Best wishes!
Just curious what device you are using to post, a phone or a computer? And what brand is this device? Like I said, I am just curious.
That's a curious think to be curious about. It's a . . .computer. What difference does the brand make? I got it 2nd hand, like my clothes and most of my household goods. It's an Asus, fwiw. I just found an old iMac from a garage sale, but I can't get it to work with my cruddy dial-up connection yet.
In my case, it is a recycled computer, that I put back together from parts that were going to be thrown away and it runs a non-commercial operating system. Can you do that?
