The following is an answer to the ongoing question of what the Occupy movement is about: The issue is not "isms". Nor is it which party you belong to. Both sides have been paid off by the 1%. This is not a Democrat or a Republican movement. We are not, as some media pundits would try and have you believe, "unwashed hippies". We are nurses. Construction workers. Returning military. Mothers. We are teachers. We are students with no chance of paying off their loan. We are these and many more.
We are all of the people who have long suspected that there is something broken in our system and have finally had enough. When people ask why we protest in places like Wall Street and not Washington, My answer is you go to the owner of a business to complain and not it's employees. "Of the people, for the people, by the people" no longer applies. Sadly, part of the blame is ours. We vote, and thereby we give power over us to people who are saying all the right things but ignore us when elected. The converse of this power we give them is RESPONSIBILITY to US! Sadly, our apathy has led us to this. We are more interested in Facebook, iPhones, Jersey Shore, than we are in watching these people we elect. We nod our heads when they make promises and then wring our hands when they do not keep them. If you want it to change, you MUST let elected officials know:
We are watching you now.
All of the time.
We will not blink.
We will hold you accountable to the people from here forward.
You serve us and not the lobbyists who enrich you with money for the price of your influence.
We will vote them out as needed. We must remind them that they work for US. We can demand change all we want, and concessions will be made to shut us up, because they know that this country has a short attention span. They are counting on the Occupy movement going away as people get bored and distracted. Do not look away. Do not blink. Let them know that from here forward and at all time 'We WILL be watching you and you work for we the people. Now act like it."
