Forum Post: what to do about the violent and destructive giving the movement a bad name.

in order to prevent this movement being sabotaged by the reckless anarchist or paid provocateur, i feel the 99% that do stand for peaceful protest start making citizens arrests and handing these cowards and sellouts over to the authorities.

i posted this in response to the recent destruction of property at the occupy oakland which was reminiscent of the highjacking that occurred at the WTO protests in seattle.

the non-violent are 100's, these guys are few. as i believe there will be more occurrences such as this, it is important to come up with a solution.

Under cover police are being identified as the ones who started the nonsense in oakland in order to justify using force by their fellow officers. This tactic has been used many times to discredit peaceful protests. I have not witnessed anyone being violent or destructive at any protest. Ignore all rumers that this is anything other than a peaceful protest. Peacful only means no violence. we are certainly using very loud voices filled with passion. check out this article revealing undercover cops http://redgreenandblue.org/2011/10/30/busted-occupy-oakland-police-infiltrators-exposed-on-video/

Excellent link. Cops have been doing this for years, I'm surprised so many are unaware of it. I think you need to put that link in its own post so more will get a chance to see it.

I did yesterday but things fall off the radar quickly around here, I'll comment on it to get it back up to the top. People really need to be aware this is happening especially in an age when everyone has their own surveillance equipment right ton their smart phones. we can police the police

while i do agree with you that there are undercover police that have infiltrated the movement in oakland, all of the film footage that i have seen of the vandalism show the perps being skinny white dudes. while i am not ruling out that oakland police were behind it, i don't think they did it.

agreed! this is a peaceful movement! If not, we will fail.

[-] 1 points by amen88 (173) 13 years ago

so far i haven't heard any comment either endorsing the idea (citizens arrest on violent and destructive protesters) or going against it.

Listen close to one of those Oakland videos and you can clearly hear a peaceful protestor exhorting the black clad anarchist to not be destructive.

And please don't claim that peaceful guy was just play acting to enable the violence.

[-] 1 points by amen88 (173) 13 years ago

yes, i agree, there was definitely protesters standing up against these hoodlums, i think more will have to be done though. these guys aren't going to just back off of there own free will. the threat of being handed over to police not only gives them something to think about, the act in itself will show the movement in it's true light.

I agree. Also check WarmItUp's link. The hard part will be distinguishing actual troublemakers from those planted by the police. Either way, the non-violence message has to be repeated continually so the general population knows.

Get them out of the streets and stop blocking up the other citizens. Stop harassing the citizens. If you see something do something, pull the person out of the way. If you want to blockade a business then use the sidewalk. go to the business, make a human chain and leave the other citizens alone. If you want to see OWS implode keep letting the radicals harass the citizens. The Oakland thing is already backfiring. people are angry at the protesters.

OWS is not the 99%, it is the bottom .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the 99%

is so

[-] 1 points by HappyLove (143) 13 years ago

And you are even below that. Sad, aren't ya? lol.

[-] -1 points by Frankie (733) 13 years ago

Too late. The anarchists among you are tired of the finger-diddle crap and wanna burn something. lol

[-] 2 points by amen88 (173) 13 years ago

i don't think it is too late at all. as a matter of fact, there are very few that are leaning that way, most of the protesters have been exercising passive resistance.

[-] 1 points by HappyLove (143) 13 years ago

You are right.

The best thing to do is distance ourselves, but not spend too much time defending ourselves and just keep up the good work.

Us getting defensive is what people like Frankie want.

[-] 1 points by amen88 (173) 13 years ago

agreed

[-] -1 points by Frankie (733) 13 years ago

Doesn't take many. And, unforunately, the rest of you aren't going to control the nut jobs. That's what happens when you turn on a bunch of disparate radicals with no clear purpose.

It's because they agree with your politics. It's why you see us older folks with the Tea Party and GOP, who pay your bills for you.

[-] 3 points by amen88 (173) 13 years ago

first, don't believe that you pay my bills, actually i am quite certain of that. second, the movement has never stood for violent acts or the destruction of property. these are just a few jerks that are getting paid to come in and give the protest a bad name or are just senseless anarchists into mayhem and destruction but have no real idea what they are asking for.

We pay the obscene taxes that support the entitlements that 30% of the country is now addicited to. And us next, since we have no more to give the IRS.

[-] 1 points by HappyLove (143) 13 years ago

You never paid any bill of mine, lazy bum.

[-] -2 points by Joeschmoe1000 (270) 13 years ago

Hi. I am a provocateur and I am looking to get paid. Can anyone on this site direct me to a provocateur payment agent, or other hiring firm?

Thank you, and good luck.

[-] 1 points by HappyLove (143) 13 years ago

Thanks for your best wishes.

Am afraid you'll be rejected though, don't think provocateurs can be cowards.

I heard via Twitter that ACORN is paying a $100 per protestor. Try them.
