Abraham Lincoln ran the country under Marshall Law. But not for that where would we be. All the great ideas and posts on this forum are all a pipdream and the 99% so you say cannot even organize a petition. So how about an autocratic leader for a few years to implement all these great ideas and then turn it back over to the voters. About as realistic as the rest of this.
A study of history would indicate that this is neither a good idea nor a helpful suggestion.
From another post. The guy's got it!!
I doubt anything will change anytime soon. In spite of OWS efforts, Tea Party efforts; and even Democrat and Republican efforts, there is no sign of change on the horizon. Not for liberals or conservatives. The majority of Americans live comfortable and secure lives. They buy big screen TV’s by the millions, they subscribe to 500 channel cable networks, they buy the latest iPhones and buy the newest cool car they can afford. They pay more attention to football and basketball than to social issues. As long as people can have their pizza delivered and drink the coolest craft beer they are happy. We’ve had two wars where American lives were lost and it’s just a ten minute update on the nightly news for most people. The effects of war has not touched the masses. People are self serving, they will not do anything to jeopardize their comfortable lives; and as long as the majority are secure no significant social or political change will occur. As I said earlier, only when people are personally affected by the mess will change occur. We have not yet reached a pain level for people to start caring and get involved. ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply permalink [-] 1 points by Robert25 (2) 2 days ago You are right! Unfortunately it will be to late for the next generation or two. Its like boiling a frog. ↥twinkle ↧stinkle reply permalink
The American People are dependent in every way on gasoline and diesel fuel for their way of life. When the price of diesel spikes very high, the prices of consumer goods of all kinds will jump as well, particularly food prices. If gasoline prices spike very high,Americans will find great difficulty in coping. That is why energy markets are somewhat manipulated and energy companies are heavily subsidized.Eventually market manipulations and subsidies will not be able to stop prices of gasoline and diesel from spiking so high that the American People will notice that something has gone wrong.I don't think Americans generally understand that the government does not have total control over things like gas prices.
