What era elevated the working man the most, which made his life better, which provided the most opportunity?
That's too broad of a question. Many would say the time after WWII, but that was really just a prosperous time for the white working class. The 90's were probably the best times in general for the working class, but it was built on unsustainable practices that are still biting us in the ass today. If we could have the civili liberties of the 90's combined with the manufacturing of the 50's, then we would see great times. Unfortunately, it is impossible now.
Probably the 1950's in the United States, when the top marginal tax rate on corporate profits was around 90%, and employers had gov't incentives to reinvest in their businesses rather than squirreling their profits away in overseas bank accounts.
