Do you have a job? If not, why? If you don't have a job, what kind of income do you have? How do you support yourself?

I am an Acupuncture Physician, licensed in Florida since 2002. I shouldn't be so broke. I am excellent at what I do and can help alot of people. Our healthcare system is in shambles and insurance very rarely covers alternative healthcare, despite their marketing attempts to appear otherwise. Before the economy fell apart I was doing ok, not great, but ok. Since 2007 I have struggled. I barely survive. I am doing everything right business wise but if no one else has any money, and health care gets cut before going out to eat for most people, I'm out of options. I work for myself but every month is a race to get enough together to pay the bills and every month it seems to get closer to the wire.

When you say you are doing "everything right business wise", what do you mean specifically? How do you know what is "right"?

I have a degree in Computer Art from SVA. I know some programming, I know how to make 3D models, I even know some techniques for film and tv.

But they are exporting jobs like mine to India and China. "Expanding" is the word that the guy from Lucasfilm said...snort...

Hypothetically I could go there, but they both have bad records on how they treat women and China has laws on its books that make ours look like a paradise, so no go. Second, I would be thousands of miles from my family for an indefinite time and paid at a rate that would be illegal here, with lax labor laws.

All I ever wanted to be was an animator or designer...

but my field is so specialized I am having a hard time finding work-they won't even take me on for menial computer stuff because I have no experience and I can't afford to go back to get retraining at school. I am stuck.

I'd also like to point out that I'm not only angry at the 2008 economic crisis. That was a minor thing compared with what the weapons industry and oil industry has done to this country and countries around the world. Money comes and goes, but lives don't.

Hmm...maybe housekeeping. It's not like I'm going to get a job after I get my degrees in this situation.

What sort of degrees? In what fields? Why don't you think you are going to be able to get a job those fields? How much do you estimate you spent on those degrees?

[-] 1 points by Sheep (13) 13 years ago

Personal, sorry.

[-] 1 points by IDK (21) 13 years ago

Ok, does whatever degree you are going for give you any skills?

[-] 1 points by Sheep (13) 13 years ago

Umm...I think if I said it, it may become obvious.

Plenty! As a refugee from the real estate and mortgage industries I have over 10 years of marketing experience I know the meaning of 'high volume' marketing (ie:mailers etc. ranging from 300 to 10,000+ pieces/individual and team contacts per day) to achieve the desired result at the 'bottom line' unfortunately, without my own money and the current economic conditions many business opportunities are not realistic to do: ie: time from marketing effort to desired income result exceeds 3 months and in many cases exceeds 1 to 5 years..

Since I am over the 'quickly employable' age of 30 my plan is to start a business involving other interests of mine along with my husband while just barely surviving off of his Veteran's pension benefits.

Where you complaining then, when the real estate boom was in full steam. Doubt it. Would you be crying now if the real-estate boom was still in full force. Doubt it.

No, I was not complaining then but I was already saving like mad since I could SEE a BIGGER downturn than what I saw in the 1980's. When my mortgage company consisting of up to 200 or so staff at any given time was in the last months of conducting business in 2008 and the MONSTROSITY of property DEVALUATION was plainly apparent to all (one after another of property valuations on loan applications were 'UNDERWATER') the owner called me in (since he reserved the last weeks of the business for laying off the last of his best people/top producers) and as part of my exit interview he wanted to know what I thought about the projections of the general business community that we would see a RECOVERY by 2010. I told him that 'THIS TIME IS DIFFERENT, IT LOOKS MUCH WORSE THAN WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 1980'S/90'S, IT LOOKS WORSE THAN DESCRIPTIONS OF THE 1970'S AND MAY BE MORE LIKE A DEPRESSION.' Because I always SAVE when I earn and more so when times are better I actually had slightly more than 2 year's worth of above average income to live off of and we 'burned through it' before relocating outside of CALIFORNIA to a city and state where we were able to ensure that the costs of living would and do equal slightly less than 1/3 of my husband's Veteran's pension benefit-because he was injured on his last job with a San Francisco Bay Area County he's unable to work for now but at least we were able to make our situation work and thankfully we're both willing to work slowly toward business goals unrelated to our prior fields which are more holistic with a view to giving back to the community by helping others first one at a time and then hopefully in groups at a time. -economicallydiscardedcitizen and 'Ha Ha Club' Member PS: The insanity of witnessing fellow top local real estate and mortgage professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area being reduced to living out of their luxury cars along with inability to generate even 'average to above average income' resulted in us joining what I began calling 'The Ha Ha Club' because I knew that 'Those at the top' through their knowledge were making out like bandits as they pulled the proverbial carpet out from under the real estate markets effectively disabling both the real estate and finance industries and hurting the 'American Dream' of home ownership, jobs, small business and the proverbial 'chicken in every pot.'

I'm studying computer science at FIU. I have almost 0 income and I commute to college from my parent's house (Don't judge me...) Anyways, I support this protest because I'm sick of watching my country being herd like cattle for the benefit of corporations. This whole decade has been a nightmare.

One would need a wants & needs list.
