I move that OWS transcend the exceedingly important but limited boundaries of a protest movement. The corrupt two party system in the USA needs a true challenge from the people. We don't need another democrat or another republican candidate. We need leaders that come out of the protest movement and remain committed to the ideals that OWS represent. You can challenge the system from the outside. But the true endgame should be to change the system from the inside. If Americans cannot see in such a late stage of the game that a true third party grassroots political movement is what this country need (not another tea party inside the republican party), that the ideas represented by OWS speak to the heart of the problems, then the OWS must continue the fight on the outside until more and more people wake up and join the movement and a real challenge to the two party system is formed. This should be the endgame.
The 1% love the current right vs. left polarization of the country. The American people take sides like a hometown football rivalry, meanwhile they are laughing all the way to the bank while putting our children's future at risk. We need to address the root cause. Here is my 2 cents:
For decades now the corporations and special interests have had our "representatives" bought and paid for (both on the right and the left). Don't get distracted by the symptoms - we need to address the root cause. Concentrating our efforts on getting the money out of our politics is the best way we can create an environment in which further reforms can be realized. Until we end the current system of legalized bribery (campaign donations) and paid lobbying our politicians will continue to be the LAP DOGS of the corporations and special interests. What we need first and foremost is real, loop-hole free CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!!!! If the corruption is not dealt with first, the chance of any other meaningful reforms becoming a reality is almost zero - the special interests will just use their money to buy votes and put forward bills that create loop-holes or otherwise twist the law in their favor. If we want our children to live in a country where there vote matters, we need to get the money out of our politics, otherwise they will increasingly become the 21st century version of the "landless peasant." Spread the word - End the LEGALIZED BRIBERY!!! CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM needs to be THE main goal of the protests!!!
even more important than campaign finance reform is to disallow congress to invest in any stocks other than a blind trust. This affects democracy in a far more fundamental way than even the worst campaign finance problems.
Read this story, and look at the video as well: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57323527/congress-trading-stock-on-inside-information/
You'll see how this is even more of a problem than campaign finance, though I agree that that needs reformation as well.
I agree with this. There are other things I think should be a part of it, particularly the restoration of Glass-Steagal, but nothing good can really happen until we make the government accountable to the people and not campaign contributions.
I 100% AGREE. Restoration of Glass-Steagal and Campaign Finance Reform - I'm with you all the way!
And there it is. Joined today to spread the word.
We need the Party Hardy Party!!!
