Forum Post: What can high school students do?

I teach at an upper east side high school...where the students really want to challenge the system many of their parents have bought into for their entire lives. How can we help them get involved/educated about the movement? Ideas? Other teachers doing things?

Essentially I'd advise you to teach the kids about the Great Depression; supply them with resources such as this: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/ascentofmoney/featured/watch-the-two-hour-the-ascent-of-money/24/ and teach them about CDOs and credit default swaps so that they have an understanding of how this mess happened. From there, take them down to Zucotti Park and let them spend a day simply talking with and getting to know the protesters to give them a sense of the movement itself. If you want you might also arrange for a food/blanket/tent/donation drive for the protesters that the students would be responsible for running.

How about you stop telling every kid they should go to college? How about you teach how to start a business? How about you stop pointing gov guns at tax payers to pay your salaries in the gov monopoly on education? How about you stop running schools like prisons? How about your unions stop protecting bad teachers?

Tell them to get a part time job after school. Study hard. Save money. Invest. Take well thought out risks. Reap the rewards.

Do a study group and the students determine what the gross income is per household for each.

The students family's make the least amount of money should be grouped together. This would be the bottom 50%.

The other half of the class should be forced to buy the bottom 50%'s lunch everyday.

This way they will understand how our current tax code works.

Now being that your on the UES, You'll need to figure out who the top 1% is.

For a field trip, take all the students to the home of the top 1% and protest that their family is making too much money!

Better yet why don't you do your fucking job that our tax dollars pay for and teach school and leave politics out of the class room you fucking idiot!

12 years of government indoctrination. You've done enough damage.

Tell them to get ready for the coming revolution. We're going to hit the reset button and take back all the wealth. Tell them that if their parents are rich we will forgive them but only if they commit their lives to serving others. They will be the new monks, only poorer, shabbier and stinkier.
