I want to help, but seem to only be limited to social media to do so. Any suggestions?
Maybe bring it to the attention of your teachers?
Get the word out. Raise awareness. Talk to people. Organize in your local community. Blog about it.
The only thing limiting you is you... well that and your parents since I'm guessing you're under 18 :) Glad to have you with us.
Hi,
My name's Ava, I'm a high school student in the Chicago area. I started Occupy High School (occupyhighschool.org) 2 years ago with Occupy Chicago. Now, we have about 50 high schools signed up with us--and an opportunity to merge with Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) has come up, as Occupy Colleges recently merged with SDS. We really want to reach out to more high schools and tell them about this, especially in time for the spring Days of Action for Education. Please email occupyhighschool@gmail.com for more info, and visit our website! We need to get in touch to start organizing NOW!
Thanks!
Go back to school, open a history book, and come to the forum with more wisdom than 95% of these fools
Talk to your friends about what America and Americans really stand for. How they would like the future to be ? Do you wan't pristine air, water and soil ? Try to learn how the world works in reality. Talk to them about how corporations work ? First understand the reality and then you can make a difference. Until then, find a honest leader who you believe in and see if you agree or disagree with what he says and why.
If you have funds… travel to the camp for a weekend once a month. You will be fed, there are supplies for you to make signs, there are tasks to be done.
He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.
I would suggest going to college and studying economics or finance, then graduate school for 2 years. You can then travel to NYC and explain to the protesters why they are misguided, ignorant, and naive.
Blaming Wall St and corporations for the world's woes is absurd. You may want to study Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Barney Frank, and Maxine Waters in AP history. And while you are at it, it wouldn't hurt to take a look at how the unions have contributed to the decline of American industry.
College? Not to be a thorn in your side, Mike... but recent, college graduates can't find a start on their careers either. And as far as Union's go, you might have some weight to your argument. But my career was in technology...not union supported. And it was technology that sealed the deal on my career. My company's firm sent my career job to India/Mexico. You do know they have colleges in other countries, right?
So what is your point? Education is a waste of time? You may be right. Maybe we should have both gone to work for the Post Office instead of college. I can tell you that I would be in a much better financial situation! Heck, I'd be about to retire with my huge government pension, health insurance, etc.
I hear 'ya, Mike. Pension and benefits seem a lot more attractive than wages these days. I just remember a time in this country when we were spinning the wheel. Now, we are just another spoke in the wheel.
read a bunch of history!
I should make it known that in my AP history class, we've been talking about this a lot (which makes me happy)
Oh, and by the way, take those negative comments with a grain of salt. There will always be hateful, negative people out there. Don't let negative people poison your personal journey.
Glad to hear you guys are talking about it.
Keep it up! :)
This is good. Our younger generation need to know.
