Forum Post: what about the venus project?

I think we should focus on the Venus project.

Its time to accept the hard facts that the increase in consumption, population and limited resources of this earth will lead to conflicts that will not be able to be resolved with a push of a legislative pen.

The jobs that have been lost will also never come back due to automation. Heck replacing cashiers with automatic check ins alone would cause a catastrophe in the job market.

And why not on Jupiter? Jupiter still more!

The Venus project, could be a solution for the 1%- but the earth could only support a small number of humans-- under it. with global population of 7 billion, and global warming caused weather pattern changes. future world populating should run between .5 & 1 billion -

[-] 1 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

No its a solution for the 100%.

The venus project doesn't require money, it requires resources.

i support a Resource Based Economy 100%. With the internet, much has been exposed over the years 2 confirm that feeling that 'something not right'. Being on this merry-go-round 4 63 yrs i can tell u things r progressively worse,we r now in multiple wars & there's no more bandaids in the box. Sometimes when a house is beyond repairs it's time to tear it down & build anew. The only 'project' which has practical answers/solutions IS a RBE. We've bcome so untrusting of anything/anyone that in this day & age we're still saying 'it will never happen'? The knowledge, resources & technology r in the wrong hands. If u truly feel we r one family then please visit a site that has put together a great collage of The Venus Project (named only bcause Jacque lives in Venus, FL) ideas. Jacque has dedicated his entire life 2 practically solving man's problems (which r technical not political) but the $$ system has held back these ideas (much like Tesla). Anyway, i know in my gut/heart that a RBE is possible & as this & other movements continue merging & looking 4 answers, you'll c that a RBE = common sense. And by 'common' i mean 4 the common good o/t earth, it's resources & ALL it's inhabitants. Jacque has NO agenda other than 2 provide practical answers 4 the same problems we all face. A New Beginning is the start of a beginning's end. A RBE is that new beginning. Just think of it, this generation gets 2 graduate & finally say "take this job & shove it" We CAN move beyond politics, poverty & war. Love & solidarity, Mamma D "^_^" http://www.unitinghumans.com/

Communism! With Robots!

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

Ugh whatever.

Even if someone where to hack into the computer they'd only be able to steal minerals that are worthless by themselves alone.

[-] 1 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

I wouldn't hack into the computer.

I'd live on the outside, raise an army and fight against the whole system. I'd rather be free. The whole Venus project would have to resort to violence in order to deal with me.

[-] 1 points by WakeUpWorldTV (58) 12 years ago

You would be free in an RBE. No dictators, no laws, no prisons, no wars, the best possible education free of debt, and access to all resources.

btw, those soldiers in your army would not be considered free, because they are putting their lives on the line for you, the dictator. But not really putting their lives on the line, because there is no need for an army in a Resource-based economy.

[-] 2 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

I know. I would try to cease more power, more wealth, more resources. I would find a reason to fight against it.

It's my nature.

[-] 2 points by WakeUpWorldTV (58) 12 years ago

Would you be pleased to have the entire world to yourself, with absolutely no one to share it with? Is that in your nature?

[-] 2 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

What would the Venus project result be? We would eventually hit over population, or nature disaster would force the "system" to make choices with the resources. People will rebel. No one wants to die, everyone wants to be in control.

[-] 1 points by WakeUpWorldTV (58) 12 years ago

Those of us in support of a resource-based economy understand the Earth's carrying-capacity, and if we exceed that there will be problems.

Today we are far from carrying-capacity on Earth, but have already exceeded carrying capacity for the current economic system. Capitalism cannot sustain a population of 7 Billion, if it could 30,000 children wouldn't die everyday of starvation and preventable diseases.

If Sh!t were to hit the fan, people would not rebel, because rebelling doesn't solve any problems. People would be educated to solve problems when sh!t doesn't go as planned.

Natural Disasters: If a natural disaster were to occur, everyone on the planet would know in minutes, stop what they're doing, and volunteer to save the lives of their brothers and sisters. Everyone involved would be insured by food stored near the north and south poles, specifically produced for these types of situations. A lot less people would die in natural disasters, because all structures would be built to the utmost maximum-efficiency.

People will also be educated to work together, because one person (leader) cannot solve all problems. It takes the minds of many to put anything together.

I could literally paint this picture for days, but all this information is available on TheVenusPoject's website. It's clear you do not understand a Resource-Based Economy, so follow this link and understand it: http://thevenusproject.com/the-venus-project/resource-based-economy

[-] 2 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

You have way to much faith in the uniformity of Man. It will be taken advantage of.

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

Well nobody is stopping anyone from doing what you claim under this system.

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

well I guess there's jail.

[-] 2 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

Who's going to watch the prisoners, and what's the advantage of watching over a prison all day, instead of running in fields with all the happy people? How do you sentence someone? Will there be a judge? Does the judge need an education? Does everyone get that education? Is everyone a judge?

Automation is a bit of a red herring. It was an important issue back in the 80s, when they were rapidly automating the manufacturing sector. We don't really have much of a manufacturing sector anymore (automated or otherwise) and most manufacturing is probably less automated today than it was by the late 80s - they discovered that Third World workers are much cheaper than expensive machinery, and outsourced it all to labour-intensive sweatshops. Those jobs are all still there, in fact there are more of them than ever before. If you like making $0.06 an hour.

[-] 1 points by rbe (687) 12 years ago

A lot of the outsourced jobs are being lost to automation. Foxconn, the company that makes a lot of Apple products, is automating rapidly. Check my thread here: http://occupywallst.org/forum/jobs-are-becoming-obsolete-due-to-advances-in-tech/

"Business Week estimates that 1% productivity improvement can eliminate up to 1.3 million jobs. With U.S. productivity growing at an annual rate of 3-5%, the reason for the jobs shortfall becomes clear. According to Forrester Research, of the 2.7 million jobs lost over the three years, only 300,000 have been from outsourcing.

Dick Morley explains it with his usual colorful flair, “Jobs are going down the silicon hole, not the outsourcing hole.” And the figures support this contention. Productivity resulting from industrial automation—not outsourcing—is the biggest culprit behind most manufacturing job losses. All industrialized countries are losing manufacturing jobs too – including China."

[-] 2 points by Edgewaters (912) 12 years ago

Well, if you look at a particular company in isolation in China, then yes - efficiencies are always happening (always have been) and that means job losses. But if you look overall, China is adding manufacturing jobs all the time regardless. New products, new markets, etc. Some of it even due to automation itself.

[-] 0 points by rbe (687) 12 years ago

But are the jobs going to be enough at the current time to employ the people who need jobs?

[-] 2 points by Edgewaters (912) 12 years ago

We're soon going to face a shortage of workers because of the demographics .... Europe already is. It's going to be ugly. Huge population on fixed incomes or sketchy retirement investments, supported by tiny worker population whose wages will skyrocket, meaning all living costs will skyrocket too. Compounded by resource shortages to boot.

[-] 0 points by rbe (687) 12 years ago

Maybe in certain fields that require higher education.

[-] 2 points by Edgewaters (912) 12 years ago

Nope, across the board. That's why Europe is bringing in so many immigrants and guest workers, its not to do the higher education jobs, its to man cash registers and flip burgers. The US gov't knows it's headed in the same direction . . . that's why Bush alienated his base with immigration reforms and an attempt at amnesty for Latin American illegal immigrants, they know they will need to legitimize it and expand it. It certainly wasn't political expediency on his part!

[-] 0 points by rbe (687) 12 years ago

I'd have disagree with that. I think it's a BS reason to just further globalization.

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

Well the jobs are gone either way.

[-] 2 points by genanmer (822) 12 years ago

They are still attempting to raise funds to hire a director for a movie aren't they?

[-] 1 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

I hope they don't take too long. I don't know how many years Jacques has left... :(

[-] 2 points by genanmer (822) 12 years ago

I'm just surprised they haven't already received the necessary amount for their film. There has to be a few rational modestly wealthy people in the world..

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

none of which would benefit from this...

[-] 1 points by genanmer (822) 12 years ago

It's an investment of the highest kind. A high quality of life for everyone.

Go figure. So few want to invest in world peace, sustainability, extremely high technology, and true freedom.

[-] 1 points by simi34103 (14) from Lake Placid, FL 12 years ago

Why? I think there is enough on the plate.

[-] 1 points by gawdoftruth (3698) from Santa Barbara, CA 12 years ago

the venus project has too many fatal errors in its assorted belief systems, and is thus not a viable or useful system or tool here for discussion. It is a cult, a cult of personality, its a belief system, a troll con scam, and a fascist and totalitarian actual culture. Having a lot of very good ideas does not solve the problems that the fatal errors create. Much like so many other neato things like lawn roll for 2102, or nobama, while there is lots of GOOD stuff there, the holistic whole thing is an apple filled with 20 worms.

Its rotten to the core and there isn't a decent bite left. Its a rancid corpse of a zombie movement, its a dead stalking horse walking for agenda 21, and a New World Order Wet Dream .

[-] 3 points by badconduct (550) 12 years ago

Amen.

[-] 2 points by Edgewaters (912) 12 years ago

Bingo. We don't have any time left for the shiny neato stuff, for people enamored with their own theoretical brilliance. We need concrete solutions that are going to bring results, we need a plan of action that the public at large can get behind, and we need it now. Clock is ticking.

[-] 1 points by debndan (1145) 12 years ago

The resources of the Earth are sufficiant. Though energy scarcity is a real and present danger, and do lead to wars.

But with the latest advances in solar and wind that, too, can be overcome. And automation is part of the solution, if we are to solve our other problems.

But what we CANNOT sustain is the insatiable appetite of the powerful few for MORE money and power.

When there are wars and crisis' there is money to be made.

[-] 2 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

Its not only energy. Things like copper are also on the list now.

[-] 0 points by rulesdontapply (27) 12 years ago

I think we should focus on realist goals

[-] 0 points by ronimacarroni (1089) 12 years ago

I'm afraid the realist goals will not solve this problem.
