well someones getting rich. will they leave the party once they become the 1%.

[-] 1 points by omniscientfool (84) 13 years ago

I've been looking at the other occupy websites and I see no mention of the monies being raised?

Who's bank account is the money going in? What is it being spent on? If the majority of people occupying know nothing about it, then who does?

This is the beginning of the end if these monies cannot be accounted for

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 13 years ago

Too bad those who have the money will probably just delete this thread and hope everybody else keeps their heads in the sand.

[-] 1 points by MechanicalMoney (208) 13 years ago

I don' care of this, ideas are more precious than money...

[-] 3 points by MikeLobo (67) 13 years ago

This is very disturbing to not know who's controlling this event and the money from donations. I would say cease all donations till people come forward and receipts are posted online.

[-] 3 points by L0tech (79) 13 years ago

Goddammit people. Stop donating if you don't know EXACTLY where it's going.

[-] 3 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

Donate food, supplies, ideas or time. Electronic transactions of dollars are what got us into this mess.

[-] 2 points by tada (4) 13 years ago

The bankers are behind the protests. The international bankers that is, including Bernanke, Geithner, and the Federal Reserve. You are playing into their hands. Anyone ever heard of Stalin?

[-] 2 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

I came to this site Friday night to offer my assistance as a non-profit organizer. I can do basic coding of web pages, accounting, and other functions.

Mainly I wanted to get some sanitation facilities out to Zucotto (sic) park.

In a matter of about 20 minutes I found over 15 contact listings, and left vmail and email on every one of them.

24 hours later, no response. They aren't even updating the site anymore.

Where did everyone, and the "tens of thousands" http://afgj.org/?p=1765#more-1765 of dollars go?

Well, the General Assembly never was in the US, they are operating out of a hotel room somewhere in Nicaragua, and the money has been deposited in a Central American bank.

How could the people do this to our citizens, how can members of our government support this?

They have to know, it only took me 20 minutes to find out, and they had days and hundreds of people on their staffs.

[-] 2 points by jalan (108) 13 years ago

Good thing that a 1%'er George Soros is funneling money to OWS. Seems to be the exact kind of whoring that these wackos are complaining about.

[-] 2 points by omniscientfool (84) 13 years ago

Also the amount is not impotant, 1mil or 1k, what is important is where is it going, what is it being spent on and who holds the pursestrings. In a pure democracy, this info should be available and known. Are the committee members acting on the behalf of the rest without consultation? Or are they unaware themselves?

Winder if this thread is to close to the truth and will be deleted?

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

It needs to be addressed, on the front page.

[-] 2 points by omniscientfool (84) 13 years ago

All you have to do is look at who owns this website to figure out where the money is going

[-] 2 points by devilsadvocate (67) 13 years ago

You can all go home now. I'm going to wall street to invest the money youv'e donated

[-] 2 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 13 years ago

where are the sub forums ?

[-] 2 points by devilsadvocate (67) 13 years ago

Too Funny! If true, you should be able to buy a shiltload of pamphlets...eh?

[-] 2 points by chigrl (94) 13 years ago

Congratulations. OWS is now part of the 1%.

[-] 2 points by powertothepeople (1264) 13 years ago

How do you know this?

[-] 2 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

I'm curious too.. could always be a trolling attempt.

[-] 3 points by chigrl (94) 13 years ago

Regardless of the dollar amount, do you know where the donations are going? Who is keeping track of them? What are they buying? Where is this transparency and accountability you've all been preaching?

[-] 3 points by omniscientfool (84) 13 years ago

Ironic if true. This is where reality can be hard, in the leaderless movement, money is coming in to support the cause and the majority never knows about it or where it goes. The unknown forces are making decisions for the majority, because they know better how to use it, earning money off the peoples efforts.

If true, then it has only taken a few weeks for this to be destroyed.

[-] 2 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

Yeah, that is true. I personally wouldn't donate money, only goods. We do need transparency.

[-] 2 points by Mooks (1985) 13 years ago

That is likely what it is but for a group demanding open government it should at least provide some info as to where these solicited donations are going.

[-] 3 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

My point is, people come onto these forums all the time and make baseless claims to upset people.

[-] 0 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

Imagine how we will feel to find our "Dear Leaders", have split with the funds?

[-] 3 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

Regardless of wrongdoing, this movement has no leaders and has taken on a life of its own, so if some money was lost (which I doubt) it won't kill the movement.

[-] 2 points by chigrl (94) 13 years ago

Isn't ignoring wrongdoing what you are protesting? Allowing a crafty few to make off with thousands of innocent people's money seems to go against everything the protest is supposed to stand for.

[-] 2 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

If we are "leaderless", who is collecting the money?

This will crush some of the people, disillusion them to future participation.

[-] 2 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

I'd assume whoever set up the site collects the money. Still, where is your proof of $1m being donated?

If someone did make off with the money, it would be a hard lesson in corruption and might even strengthen the movement. Even those who are on our side are susceptible to greed - society and rules have to keep them in check.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

The call to action, i.e. $1,000,000.00, is just that. Over a dozen of us were tweeting with them, and as soon as the question of funds came up, no reply. No denial, no explanation, not a word.

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

I did hear about 2 weeks ago they were buying a bunch of Macs with it or something stupid. But.. the site is still up and the movement is still growing, people are online 24/7 to moderate chat and the forums. Perhaps we need a site that lists where all the money is going.. even the US gov't is more transparent.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

5 hours, no response. Show us the money. 5 hours, no response, Show us the money. 5 hours, no response. Show us the money.

Start chanting people!!

[-] 1 points by chigrl (94) 13 years ago

It would help more if there was someone actually at the protest to get this message around. Us typing on our computers probably won't do much to educate the masses.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

I am in the park, try to get answers. There is no one here but a bunch of know nothing people.

I can't even get them to chant; 5 hours, and no response. Show us the money!!

[-] 1 points by chrischrischris (143) 13 years ago

Here's a tip. Ideally someone who is collecting the money set up a tax-exempt corporation to accept the donations. That's just how it's done. Non-profits are corporations that are exempt from paying taxes. The good news is, that non-profits have to provide the public with a copy of the tax return they file annually. It is called a federal Form 990. Most federal Form 990s are posted on guidestar.org. So find out who is paying for the site, find out the name of the corporation they set up to accept the funds, and when they file their tax return this year you can find out exactly what the money was spent on.

If you have any questions about this process just respond to my post here and I will help you understand the process of finding their 990 and figuring out what the money is spent on.

Meanwhile, you can view the 990s of other corporations that are directly involved with the OWS movement. A big supporter is the Working Families Party, aka "Working Families Organization, Inc." Yes - the "Inc." part stands for "corporation". So they are the Working Families Organization Corporation. Search for them on guidestar.org and find out exactly how they are spending your donated money! It takes all of 5 mins.

thank you for this

Perhaps the "$1 Million in donations" is real -- maybe not. I'm sure there are those against this movement who have been and will be posting comments merely to cause internal turmoil and suspicion. Remember, this movement is new, and growing every day; obviously, there are many critical things yet to be ironed out. It is unrealistic to think this could run without a hiccup from Day 1. The essential things right now are to find a capable leader and a clear message. Once this happens, the movement will skyrocket.

I just feel we have been used hard by a bunch of greedy pukes. And if we don't address it, and denounce them, we are screwed.

[-] 1 points by DaTrollMon (4) 13 years ago

Tough luck, suckers. So naive.

This was a real possibility from the start, it should not disenfranchise, but motivate to fix these problems.

[-] 1 points by avianP (2) from New York, NY 13 years ago

Hi all.

I am delivering Water bottles and limited food as money allows. I dropped my life saving of 9k into this before I even accepted any donations.

If you want to know where your money is going, mail me here:

(paypal) OccupyNY@gmail.com

I am currently buying fresh fruit and Water...seems to be needed the most.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

Just caut and paste the info here, but please remove any identifiable information. Maybe you can help with the sanitation issues. 5 gallon buckets to use as toilets is better than using the flower beds.

True, there is no accountability, and although I'm all in favor of taking down today's ineffective and inefficient Top 10% Management Group of Business & Government in order to get that accountability, there's only one way to do it – by fighting bankers as bankers ourselves. Consequently, I have posted the Strategic Legal Policies, Organizational Operating Structures, and Tactical Investment Procedures necessary to do this at:

good use the money to get permits to get toilets, clean water and sanitation

then implement the action plan:

[-] 1 points by Toddtjs (187) 13 years ago

You guys have a treasurer?

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

Yes, in Nicaragua.

[-] 1 points by Toddtjs (187) 13 years ago

That sucks!

[-] 1 points by LaoTzu (169) 13 years ago

Donations is needed to rebuild infrastructure. It is suggested to hand them down directly to each Occupational camp directly.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

The money is gone!! It doesn't even matter.

[-] 1 points by LaoTzu (169) 13 years ago

Donations don't have to be money based. Showing Love by support in any way, Food, clothes, shelter etc... is preferable over money. Money is useless and meaningless.

The Love in Humanity's heart ♥ is worth much much more, it is inexhaustible, and the most abundant Natural Resource to give!

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

Find others on the forums to band together to rent portable showers and toilets. Do not give any money to the organizers.

[-] 1 points by Indy4Change (254) from Columbia, SC 13 years ago

Congratz on the $1 million in donations so far! Hooray for Capitalism! Do you get it now?

[-] 1 points by JeffBlock2012 (272) 13 years ago

The "funny" thing to me is many love to have a grass-roots protest, no organization, spontaneous, etc. But very quickly many realize that to be successful on their purpose they have NO CHOICE to become organized and thus "I have seen the enemy, and he is me..." because now they are an "organization".

I want to send a $100 check, but the only contact info I see is a UPS store address and the notice that they only accept money-orders or cash. So, I'll wait...

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

Try to get a few donations together to rent some portable showers and toilets. Do Not Give Money To The Organizers, They Are Not Even In The US.

[-] 1 points by Visionkeeper (6) 13 years ago

Soros has been busy writing out checks. He's in control now...

[-] 1 points by WildWeasel (32) 13 years ago

Where are the porta-potties and portable showers?

[-] 1 points by Truth (50) 13 years ago

This place is out of control already..... What can we do?

[-] 1 points by makmak (57) 13 years ago

You know, it would be a big kick in the teeth is somebody suckered people into donating money.

Where is a list of names, anyhow, of those who are in charge of these sorts of things?

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

They won't reply anymore. Please!! Someone answer!!! Just give us a screen name, a hotmail, gmail account anything.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

5 hours of silence from those that have collected the money. 5 hours, and no one reponse.

[-] 1 points by Slam1263 (196) 13 years ago

I have a non-profit, I am offering my services to help them set one up, so they don't have to pay TAXES, on these donations. I can code, I can do the books, I can rent some damned portable toilets, and showers.

But NO ONE will contact me. Where is the money.

[-] 1 points by Flsupport (578) 13 years ago

Yeah, I donated, that would be really good to know.

[-] 1 points by elderscrolls (3) 13 years ago

Set up food and shelter stations, feed these people. and keep them warm. And give them access to the internet.
