We should teach the homeless how to protest. They may be getting something right now however we should turn that food that we served into an investment (get them to give back but no coercing only convincing.)

The input is food to homeless, the output is more protesters.

Get the homeless to out cause before our opponents use them against us.

Are you serious? I have tried to read through your post and the ensuing responses and I am baffled. Just what are your goals in bringing reform? It looks like a case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" kind of thinking.

I am empathetic of those who are homeless because I soon will be as well. The reasons for my becoming homeless are mine and mine alone but to be considered a parasite or a tool to be used for your grand schemes is such a wrong way to perceive the current world around you. It sounds like you are looking for fodder to stand in the front line to protect yourself.

Incidentally, I am not a drug addict or alcoholic so those thoughts are wrong as well.

Sorry about my wrong choice of words. Can you help me reword it?

"The Mekong, one of the world’s major rivers, starting in Tibet and flowing through south China, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, provides sustenance through irrigation and fishing to those living in its basin. But it also provides hydroelectric power through dams, three of which were built in China and with more planned. And it is precisely these dams that are now threatening the water supply, the livelihood of those living downstream, and the relations between China and its southern neighbors, according to Michael Richardson, senior research fellow of the Institute of South East Asian Studies. A fourth Chinese dam, Xiaowan, that should generate 4,200 megawatts of power, could affect the level of fish stocks in Cambodia and water supply for Vietnam’s rice fields. But China contends controlling the water flow will prevent the adverse effects of erosion caused by the Mekong’s flooding cycle and will supply renewable energy. Winning the debate or coming to a workable compromise is further complicated by China’s refusal to join the Mekong River Commission, an inter-government agency whose members include the four of the downstream countries. And though the global financial crisis has put on hold other dams being planned by the downstream countries, China is moving ahead with its plans. For now, there is time to assess how China’s dams may affect the other regions. But as this story shows, exploiting the natural resources that cross borders on a fair and equitable basis requires not only inter-government coordination, but also a knack for expecting the unexpected. – YaleGlobal"

What does that have to do with my post (other than control of the movement food supply allegory)? Besides it seems like you are missing the point. We are trying to compromise on the problem of getting more protesters and feeding the homeless. We combine those 2 or more problem into 1 solution.

the protester should coordinate with and support the soup kitchens

can the fish population be sustained in the lakes?

[-] 1 points by Bambi (359) 13 years ago

What you are doing is BRIBING for protesters! That is wrong in every sense!

[-] 1 points by Bambi (359) 13 years ago

FREELOADING? Oh my God you did not just say that! TEACH them how to protest????

Since you are eating donated food...............who is FREELOADING????

Why don't you make them do jobs like clean up the site in exchange for food?

[-] 1 points by bigbangbilly (594) 13 years ago

Good idea (and i am not being sarcastic). However we should probably distribute some kind of coupon (protest points) for food. Protest points should be different from our currency. Make it a bad idea to invest, hoard, or get too much of it. You can only spend a limited amount of it in the official food distribution of the movement. You can pay the homeless with it like clean up the site. A fail safe switch to destroy the value of the currency if someone gets too greedy or someone is doing something bad with it.

Besides do not mistreat the homeless or our opponents might use them against us.

Coupons could be good as long as people don't start using schemes to amass them.

I worked in a big concert when I was 14. I was selling coke in the stands. First, I would by tickets to purchase the cokes at booth 1, then at booth 2 I would exchange these tickets for the cokes which I then sold for a profit in the crowd. This was cool since I could choose the price at which I sold the cokes. The sweet deal was that one of my friends was working in booth 2. Instead of thrashing the tickets I gave him, he would sell them back to me at a cheaper price than they were being sold at booth 1. We all made a lot of money that day.

I like that idea.

Voluntary trade? That reeks of capitalism to me... I'm onto you.

[-] 1 points by bigbangbilly (594) 13 years ago

Remember the part about the fail safe switch that destroy the value of the points? After the switch is activated the new points will replace the
Those doing bad things with the currency will be banned from getting any of the post failsafe of the currency.

cool story bro

[-] 0 points by Thrasymaque (-2138) 13 years ago

Right, capitalism. Ok then, just give them the food for free.

Smartguy is a troll. Occupying public space present problems, 'cause how do you ask people to leave who aren't contributing? You have to find a way to involve them and interest them. I also feel the next move should be to occupy buildings that are foreclosed or abandoned. It will be much more difficult for individuals to disrupt such efforts, and the homeless could be included in a more constructive manner.

come at me bro

Voluntary donations? What are you trying to pull here, bub?

It's the government's job to coerce the 1% into giving stuff to the homeless.

[-] -2 points by smartcapitalist (143) 12 years ago

I never give money to homeless people. I can't reward failure in good conscience.

[-] 1 points by bigbangbilly (594) 12 years ago

I did not say giving money and I meant investing as a metaphor not literally investing money.

Then you must starve yourself, being a failure as a human being.

[-] 0 points by smartcapitalist (143) 12 years ago

Ouch that hurt me so much. I will have to cry myself to sleep now. Duh. I strongly believe that if you are not dead to at least 1 person, you are not living right.

As for starving, I would much rather prefer to die of lung failure or cholesterol rather than starvation.

[-] 1 points by epa1nter (4650) from Rutherford, NJ 12 years ago

People (and I use the term loosely) like you have no tear ducts.

As to your preference for dying of lung failure, I hope you get your wish, and soon.

[-] 0 points by smartcapitalist (143) 12 years ago

Amen to that.
