Forum Post: We should not be surprised to see WALL STREET act the way it does - the people we should really be mad at is the POLITICIANS!!!

We should expect Wall Street to go for profits at any cost, no matter what it does to our country, health or future. We should expect skunks to act like skunks. But it is an entirely different thing for our politicians - the very people who are supposed to be our "representatives" and who have taken a solemn oath to act in our best interests - to act as they are. We need to reform the way we elect our officials. For decades now the corporations and special interests have had our "representatives" bought and paid for (both on the right and the left). Don't get distracted by the symptoms - we need to address the root cause. Concentrating our efforts on getting the money out of our politics is the best way we can create an environment in which further reforms can be realized. Until we end the current system of legalized bribery (campaign donations) and paid lobbying our politicians will continue to be the LAP DOGS of the corporations and special interests. What we need first and foremost is real, loop-hole free CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM!!!! If the corruption is not dealt with first, the chance of any other meaningful reforms becoming a reality is almost zero - the special interests will just use their money to buy votes and put forward bills that create loop-holes or otherwise twist the law in their favor. If we want our children to live in a country where there vote matters, we need to get the money out of our politics, otherwise they will increasingly become the 21st century version of the "landless peasant." Spread the word - End the LEGALIZED BRIBERY!!! CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM needs to be THE main goal of the protests!!!

The best way to achieve campaign finance reform is to pass two constitutional amendments. 1. All elected officials in the us are limited to one four year term, including current office holders. What this does is it eliminates the possibility of current office holders taking campaign contributions because they can,t run again. It eliminates the career politicians2.the maximum anyone can contribute to a campaign is $100, this includes pacs, corporations ,or any other group. In addition elected officials are prohibited from having any benefit that is not given to a majority of the US population

How about we come up with a financial plan to get us out of debt. To let politicians know we are not only protestors but problem solvers, because their are ones out there who do fight for us like former senator Feingold and McCain who fought for campaign finance reform. We, at Occupy Freedom in Washington D.C's Freedom Plaza have actually come up with a deficit reduction plan. We NEED signatures for our petition so it can be heard in both houses of Congress. HELP US and SIGN the petition at http://october2011.org/. Thank you all

Waste of breath. OWS is a tool of the Democrats.

Perhaps - but if it is, it is like a table saw without the proper guards in place - just as likely to cut the hand off of the owner as anyone else! I think it would be a mistake to categorize the protests using the same right vs. left categories the ruling elite have been using for years. They get the American people believing they only have two choices, turning the whole thing into a hometown football rivalry while they laugh all the way to the bank. I personally come from deep "conservative" roots - and there are many others who support these protests that are the same way.

So you believe the criminal and treasonous politicians and Congress will institute campaign finance reform; because they're impressed with masses of people protesting? They've been talking about campaign finance reform for DECADES.

Better come up with a tactic that they'll respond to, fear, and respect, and that's not JUST masses of people in the street. How about economic boycotts against corporations...the bottom line where they live.

Rosewood - you are right, and I do like your idea of economic boycotts. They have been talking about it for decades, but they have only been putting on a show - just like how the car companies have been saying for decades that the hydrogen car is right around the corner, but they never seem to really build any because they really like the status quo. I do not believe that the politicians will institute real campaign finance reform on their own, but I do believe that if "masses of people" demand it, and vote accordingly, some honest men and women will rise to the challenge and institute the housecleaning that needs to happen.

Well because we let the criminal cabal gain near complete control, you'll need masses of people demanding it, WITH economic FIREPOWER; as in telling them; you'll institute campaign reform, or we will takedown ANOTHER CORPORATION, with eonomic boycotts. Gotta walk with a big economic stick lol

Hardcore criminals don't respond to just mass demand; without the power to effect their bottom line.
