This state of India stands apart because there, people studied Marx, but discounted Stalin, Lenin, and Mao as representative of Marx's ideas. They mixed him with Gandhi instead, and in a third world country that had been wracked by caste-based discrimination and worse inequality than we have, managed to turn it around.
It's not a state collective society. It's an ownership society, as in, if you work on the land and till it, you own it and the tools you use too. They redistributed land to make sure that every household had at least five coconut trees, which in that part of the world meant economic self-sufficiency. These and other changes actually did a lot for the people's quality of life. I recommend this article. It will challenge you.
