Say what you will about what the Tea Party has become, but before it became an astroturf mouthpiece for the corporatocracy it started out as a hardcore libertarian grass roots movement that shares(d) many of the same concerns we do. That is until it it was co-opted by conservative/corporate forces bent on electing Republipukes to office.
As we speak Democratic forces are attempting to do the same thing.
Movements like MoveOn.org, the Center for American Progress, and (this pains me to say this because I am a HUGE fan of a lot of his ideas) even Van Jone's the American Dream Movement, are all working super hard to co-opt the movement to elect Democratic politicians.
I'm sure I am not alone when I share my belief that both American political parties represent and cater to corporate interests over those of the people. This great quote (from an article I will link to at the end of my post) says it all:
"The Democratic Party vultures are waiting to swoop in, steal the thunder and then make
sure the focus is on electing Democrats, who are just as much to blame as Republicans for
the ascendancy of Wall Street. If anything, they are even more to blame for the pacification
role they play in co-opting the overwhelming swath of the left time and time again, no matter
what horrible policies they pass."
So my call to all of my brothers and sisters is to stay vigilant, stay strong, continue to dissent, criticize all politicians equally, and PLEEEEEASE don't allow our movement to become co-opted by Republican OR Democratic power brokers. Power responds to pressure and the fact that they mock, deride and oppress us should make us stronger because that indicates that they know that we all see through their bullshit...And that scares the shit out of them ;-) Keep it up!!!
In solidarity,
Herwin Torres
Here: is the article I quoted from above. I humbly propose that it be circulated far and wide: http://www.truth-out.org/moveonorg-and-friends-attempt-co-opt-occupy-wall-street-movement/1318259708
that is a definite danger, both parties have sold out long ago
