Forum Post: We are the Top 33%!

Is there gonna be a spin-off movement to promote the top 33% of Americans who have achieved obesity? Blaming other people for our personal short-comings seems to be very American lately.

I imagine a vast majority of people on these forums whom are 'educated' have liberal arts degrees. Didn't work out the way you imagined huh?

BS in CS with a minor in Cognitive Studies, currently working toward a second degree in English. Twice published in the field of artificial intelligence, and gainfully employed as a lead engineer.

Nice of you to make snap judgments about people you don't know.

well anotherone, someone once said: A man who lies merely hides the truth, but the man who tells half lies has forgotten where he put it.

It is statistically impossible to earn tens of millions of dollars almost every trading day unless you're cheating. All of the trading desks of all the big investment banks achieve these statistically impossible results quarter after quarter through manipulative high-frequency trading. This is how Wall Street makes over 70% of its profits. The Fed bailout of Wall Street pales in comparison to illicit gains made every day in rigged markets. Yet the SEC sees nothing wrong with this outcome. This is all you need to know about the sickening nexus between Washington and Wall Street.

increase capital gains tax to bring high-frequency trading down and stabilize the stock market. Bubble economics is fatal.

High frequency traders, if I understand your use of the term, do not pay capital gains taxes. Capital gains taxes are paid on long term capital gains, whereas the profits on frequent trades to capitalize on market swings are taxed as ordinary income.

If I've misunderstood, please define high frequency trading.

oops! You are absolutely correct. I wasn't aware there was a difference, thanks!

You are still playing into the "Blame Game". That is so yesteryear. New fad is to actually fix what is wrong with America and stop listening to politicians. They lie so much, they dont even know when they are telling the truth.

[-] 1 points by daffyff (104) from Redwood City, CA 13 years ago

see response to enough....that's the solution.

That is not fixing the problem that is fixing one of the problems. The system is broken. The machine is broken. You need to stop the influence of money in politics and you need to make representatives actually represent the people they are elected too, under penalty of law.

Then you can worry about fixing stuff such as speculative trading, taxes, national, debt, etc.

The system needs fixed before the problems in the system get fixed otherwise i will see you guys next year same bat time same bat place.

i agree with you there as well. I was just responding to those posts directly with a solution, as requested by anotherone773.

First step is to get our representatives back for sure.

Better yet: Indict and jail those traders who are allowed to manipulate our capital markets like this: http://investmentwatchblog.com/the-wave/

That will fix it...to a degree. However the system(political) is in need of replacement, not repair. It has been damage beyond repair. Everyone of those corrupt politicos sitting on the hill are bought out repugs and dems alike. There has to be a Massive Overhaul of that house senate.congress and the whitehouse are in bed with wallstreet/corporate America. We The People need to rid ourselves of this cancer. It poisonous!

[-] 1 points by enough (587) 13 years ago

I can't disagree. The system is busted.
