Tunisia is where all of this started. The Arab Spring, the "revolutionary wave" of 2011, everything started in Tunisia, not in Egypt and Tahir Square.

Yesterday, Tunisia successfully held free elections for a Constituent Assembly, that will draw a new Constitution to the country.

The elections happened without incidents, with a turnout of about 80% of the voters!

The moderate pro-democracy Islamist party An-Nahda got around 40% of the votes, coming in first.

In second and third places, came the left wing social-democratic parties Ettakatol and Congress for the Republic (CPR).

Congratulations to the Tunisian peple!

The first Arab democracy in the world has just born!

Next time some bigot asks: "Have you ever seen democracy in any Arab country?", you can answer: YES, in Tunisia!

The website of the Ettakatol party, in French:

The website of the Congress for the Republic, in French:

These left wing parties will constitute a large proportion of the Constituent Assembly.

Do you know what a CIA color revolution is?

[-] 1 points by DemocracySpring (10) 13 years ago

Yes, I know. And it has absolutely NOTHING to do with what happened in Tunisia.

Ben Ali, the former dictator of Tunisia, was an ally of the USA.

The CIA didn't have anything to do with Mubarak and Tunisia, thats why it happened so swiftly.. However Libya and Syria are different stories, why do you think its taking so long? Our foreign policy hijacked the arab spring unfortunately

Yes, co-opted.

I think Egypt was a different story as well - they knew from social media and other measures that the nations were ripe for revolution. So, control the demolition/rebellion and voila - you have yet another dictator you can install under the guise of promoting 'democracy'.

During this first 10 days of protests in Egypt, the US government was frightened and mute.

Then, the US government started calling for "negotiations" and a "peaceful solution" (keeping Mubarak in power)

Mubarak was the CIA man in Cairo.

Yes, but haven't they used the Arab countries for years - putting in place their men and then taking them down at will?

Give me a single reason for the CIA wanting Mubarak out...

Mubarak was the henchman of Israel and the the US government.

Learn a thing: the people are not always manipulated. The people CAN do revolutions, and bring down dictators.

I agree, at least I certainly hope that you are right about that one.

In Egypt though - it appears as though the people have not been freed; the military seems like it is in control and things are not much better than before.

It could be that they didn't have much reason to unseat Mubarak except for timing/convenience. They didn't have a use for him any more - so they use him for a fall guy. Then they put another globalist stooge in to replace him.

The revolution in Egypt is incomplete.

In Tunisia, the people ousted the dictator. In Egypt, it was the Army that ousted Mubarak, and the people believed that "the Army is our friend". The Army acted preventively, to avoid a deep revolution, and to borrow time. Now people are realizing that the Army is not THAT friend...

Yes. At least that is how it appears from the media that we get here in the States.

However I realize entirely that one must not trust any source of news completely.

Turkey has been around for quite awhile now.

[-] 1 points by DemocracySpring (10) 13 years ago

Turkey is NOT an Arab country, bro.

They don't speak Arabic in Turkey, they speak Turkish.

Considering that the population is 99% Muslim and has lead the Arab world several times in its history, it seem disingenuous to separate Turkey from the Arab culture.

Thank you for sharing the fantastic news! VIVA TUNISIA!

I see that Tunisia, with a turnout of about 80% of the voters, had a MUCH HIGHER turnout than our dysfunctional democracy, in which so many Americans have ceased to believe... ;(

[-] 1 points by DemocracySpring (10) 13 years ago

Yep, that was such a high turnout!

People there want to participate in this historic moment!
