I am at a loss for words. You really do think that someone owes you something? I grew up in an abusive home, put into foster care at 13 and on my own with a baby at 16. I clawed my way to where I need to be with no education and NO family to support me. Was it fair to me that I had to start off my life being beat and emotionally abused on a daily basis? No. But I had no time to play the victim and feel sorry for myself. It is what it is and now what will I do about it!? The only difference from me and many that go through hardships is that I have the drive, the determination, the will, the want to do WHATEVER it takes to get ahead. Working full time and volunteering for another full time job to show, "I CAN do this work, give me a chance" and you know what? I proved that i wanted it more than the educated whiners that complained about having to put in a 9 hour day. It wasn't ideal but it made me VERY strong and capable to pick myself up no matter what the challenge is and keep moving. I am not a victim and neither are YOU.

I'm a corporation and I just can't make ends meet unless everything I sell was made in China by 11 year old girls making 25 cents per hour. Then the evil government makes me pay taxes so I'm a sad victim.

I don't expect any support from the world. However, I'm at a strong enough point in my life where I can say, "I want to help others."

I don't expect any help from anyone else. I don't expect a government handout, or a redistribution of wealth to ME. But I'm human, and I want to help others.

Wrong: it turned you into an unfeeling machine. It destroyed your humanity. It made you ruthless and insensitive to others,. It turned you into an ambitious, competitive monster who would step on her mother to get higher up in the rat race for more money..

It turned you into an obedient wage-slave. It made you obey your bosses as if they are slave masters with a bull whip..

Now they don't have to whip you to work for them anymore:... you're whipping yourself. Now you fear poverty and worship wealth. Now you are one of the 100's of millions of wannabe's: millions of worker ants trying to climb all over each other to get to the top of the shitpile called civilized society. You're a turncoat; you've turned your back on your own class and refuse to help anyone who needs help... why? Because nobody helped you when you needed it: that's why. Proud of being callous, unfeeling and ruthless? Join Rumsfeld: and Cheney; you're just like them except WITHOUT the money and the power. Just another wannabe upwardly-mobile brainwashed robot who is programmed to be dysfunction by the dysfunctional society she was born into. Garbage IN: garbage OUT...

Nice try. I could go into the causes that I volunteer for, the money that I donate, the time I put into not only my own children but many others but you would still cry, "liar" and come up with some other "truth" that you think I am. You are not capable of hearing anything other than your point and that truly is a shame. I have heard those (Rosemary) that can say what they need to intelligently and it has made me consider my points as well. I stand by my beliefs though but its not because I am uncaring, its because I know that if I can make it, then ANYONE can. If its unfeeling to want others to know the value of hard work and know how to keep moving even though others bet on the fact that you wont, then i guess I'm the most unfeeling jerk out there. I won't apologize for that.

so... you're a wage slave and proud of it? You're a stupid brainwashed sucker. You're proud of making millionaires and billionaires even richer off your hard work? Try working for YOURSELF: and see if you can support your family... without being a corporate wage slave: THEN we can talk. Otherwise go back to your masters and say: "yes IR! I will do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU TELL ME TO DO! sir! And i will not consider that being a slave... er...

So, you're entire point is "I suffered and worked hard to get ahead, so you guys have no reason to fight to make things any easier or better for anyone else"? That about sum it up?

Exactly. You hit the nail on the head.

You are right, Desmun - a victim mentality never creates anything except more victimhood. I admire you for your determination and hard work to make your life the best you can despite the extremely tough circumstances. But don't you see? That is exactly what this movement is about. If the occupiers had a victim mentality - they would just be moping around feeling sorry for themselves and doing NOTHING about it. But because they are NOT playing the victim - they are standing strong, standing up for themselves and working together to bring attention the root causes of the hardships affecting all of us. Nobody owes us anything. We do not want handouts. We are not begging for more scraps from the top. With courage and conviction we are taking a stand against the current system of corruption - and at the same time working together to create something better in its place. Desmun, I invite you to bring your strength and determination to work with the 99% in building a better world - we need more people like you!

It is unfair that those that work 5 hour days would call someone that works 9 hour days a victim

Yes, we owe each other's care. It is called law, government, public goods, civilisation. Or else.

Good on you, OP. Personal responsibility is the order of the day, blaming those who succeed for our failures or difficulties solves nothing.

[-] 2 points by Rosemary (8) from Buena Vista, CO 13 years ago

Exactly. It is our personal responsibility to create a system where our representatives actually reflect the will of their constituents, rather than the will of those who paid for their election.

Comedians = Not my source for how I define the world around me. Comedians are meant to satirize and put a hyperbolic spin on everything, not be the ministers of truth.
