Has anyone thought about how to pull data from the user map on this site? I can send a request with a bounding box but it seems the maximum return is 200 records. My next thought was to break up the map into a grid and send each grid request separately. The key to this would be getting the grid size just right, because how would you know if you are over the max. The request returns lat/long, so it would be easy enough to populate a spatial database and make fun maps. Does anyone else long for this data, or is it just me :)
What kind of info are you wanting to glean from this? I'm interested in certain Occupy data but have no way yet of figuring out how to gather it efficiently.
I am interested in the far reaching affect of the movement, specifically though I would like to get an idea of how many people mapped themselves on this site where they are. I think it would be fair to say that most* of the trolls did not link themselves to a location.
Unfortunately, a whole lot of legitimate posters didn't either. I've PM'ed a few and the overwhelming number have no location information. I too am interested in some of the far reaching effects. I'm curious about the number of legitimate supporters in the various sites as well as their ideas and opinions on certain key issues being brought up. I'd like to develop a questionnaire then hit the various on-line sites and see what people think.
its not a bad idea. there does not seem to be a lack of people willing to share their opinion.
Definitely keep us posted on any information you find.
apparently, it's just me. ah well, its the story of my life really
Do you mean a demographic of where the members of this forum are coming from? I think that would be really interesting!
yes exactly.. thank you. Sure we can infer demographics. I have this thought to find distances between each point - it would be like a visual representation of the list you see in your user profile. A webbed map of how interconnected we all are.
