...You're an immigrant. Celebrate the only truly "real Americans," and be wary of xenophobic, anti-immigrant fear-mongering.

From the NYCGA schedule:

"Celebrating Genocide in America: Columbus Day and Indigenous People" October 10, 2011 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm General Assembly Events 1 Hour 30 Minutes "On Monday October 10th, members of the indigenous community from Owe Aku International Justice Project, First Voice Indigenous Radio, and the United Cofederation of the Taino people will bring their voices to Occupy Wall Street and remind us to rethink Columbus day. They will also address how corporate greed and indigenous history have for hundreds of years been an integral part of the indigenous struggle to maintain a way of life, maintain Indigenous territories, and their fulfill responsibilities to the environment for future generations."

If you want to end xenophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment, then stop the Wall Street multinationals and the people who create (by displacing locals and turning their country into a s*hole for cheap goods) and hire illegals.

I agree with you - xenophobia and anti-immigrant sentient is bad for a land built on, by and for immigrants. It's incredibly hypocritical too, since the "real Americans" all started off by forcefully occupying the lands of the natives, much like what Israel has done and is doing to the Palestinians.

However, xenophobic racism just doesn't come out of thin air. It's also not reserved to "toothless drunk hillbillies" either. If you specifically choose at least two people who are different from each other and yet fundamentally similar and pit them against each other in a global dog fight, you're going to get two people ripping each other to pieces, trying to take each other out.

I wonder why anyone could and would call free trade a "noble goal that promotes unity between people through interdependence". It does exactly the opposite by pitting every human against each other in a global race to the bottom. The "rich country gets jobs sucked out by the poor country, until poor country becomes rich and the rich country becomes poor. Repeat step over and over again.
