Hello, I have an idea!

Just like the idea that started OWS. So hear me out....

I believe #OWS needs to gain support of the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE workers who can join in unity and STRIKE against mail delivery.

The USPS at this very moment if facing thousands of Postal branch shutdowns and layoffs across the US. The postal workers are stuck in a cross road because their FREEDOM of PROTEST/STRIKE was taken away in the 1970's with The Postal Reorganization Act...

The Postal Reorganization Act of 1970 abolished the United States Post Office Department, a part of the cabinet, and created the United States Postal Service, a corporation-like independent agency with an official monopoly on the delivery of mail in the United States. Pub.L. 91-375 was signed by President Richard Nixon on August 12, 1970.

The legislation was a direct outcome of the U.S. postal strike of 1970.

The U.S. postal strike of 1970 was a groundbreaking two-week strike by federal postal workers in March 1970. President Richard Nixon called out the United States armed forces and the National Guard in an attempt to distribute the mail and break the strike.

The strike led directly to passage of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970, which modernized the postal service and provided for collective bargaining for postal workers.

My Father who works for the USPS for over 17 years says that "If you strike, they can fire you". He said: "The only way to bring about real change for anything that you are unhappy with is to file a "Grievance" with the USPS through the Union. If that does not work then you have to eventually make your way through the court system.

He is currently involved with a dispute between the USPS that you can read about here:

I feel that we need to ban with the USPS workers in a MOVEMENT of SOLIDARITY and somehow convince them "person by person" "branch by branch" to STRIKE IS A NON-VIOLENT CIVIL DISOBEDIENT WAY. However there is a GRET RISK of "Job Loss" for those postal employees who choose to go against the orders of the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can start a movement with the Postal workers or any other comments/advice about my idea of sparking uprising and change within the USPS system that could benifit OWS and this country.

Imagine what the Collapse of the mail system would do to this country, even for 1 DAY!

Demands of OWS and the WORLD would be met once THE PEOPLE refuse to WORK!

We have had the power all along to make changes my friends, lets put it to use!

This is the kind of idea that will lead to real change. This movement is being smeared by the right and eyed up by the left as a potential tool to benefit them. If not the Postal workers then other groups, but it is going to take a lot more people to really irritate the oyster that is society, and produce the pearl that we all hope for, which is a just society.Power to the People, Down with The Man

The correspondence that lead to the creation of the states and constitution was carried on "post roads". And the "postman" was the first official of agreed status between all.

Therein is the weight of this film about 2013, produced in 1985.

North America

In the United States, colonial post roads developed as the primary method of transporting information across the original thirteen colonies. Post riders rode horses between towns on the road and milestones marked the distance between cities. Many of these milestones still exist on older highways such as the Boston Post Road. Before the advent of electronic communication, post roads were crucial in spreading news and knowledge across the colonies.

Realize we must have an Article 5 convention NOW!

I can't support this idea.

I'm sorry but they are the most inefficient, pension bloated example of wasteful pseudo-industrial spending and subsidization in the history of our country. They have a monopoly and they still can't run things efficiently.

They have brick and mortar outlets in areas where there are only a few thousand people. Yes technology is largely to blame but their inability to adapt and trim costs is just as much at fault for their demise. They should cut their services to three days a week not five and only deliver daily during the holiday season.

The problems at the USPS have nothing to do with eliminating the money from politics or corruption. With all do respect to the OP and his determined initiative; it is this kind of suggestion that alienates more people than unites them. The majority of people don't have any pity for the USPS and it's current situation.

I do my part to keep the Postal Service in business, every Christmas season I send out hundreds of packages and give them thousands of dollars worth of business.

Small business NEEDS the postal service. Without USPS, the economy will suck even more.

When OWS first arrived at Zucotti, the postal workers had just finished a round of demonstrations in NY/NJ and I believe some did come down to Zucotti for some of the marches.
