I think we all agree that the Occupy Movement has been extremely successful in bringing class politics and business issues to the forefront. But now that the talks have sparked, the eyes of the world are turning to the movement with the question, "Now what?"
Several attempts have been made to turn talk to action, most notable to me was the "switch to credit unions" day, which was a wonderful idea but lacked the widespread action necessary to really gain notability.
I suggest a more feasible idea, which doesn't require mass mobility, but rather extensive research by a few highly intelligent people (a resource we are not short on.) The Occupy movement should publish a report which includes the top 5 "99% friendly" businesses in each major consumer category - but most importantly, the report should also include the "bottom 5" in each category. The report would then culminate in a "top 50 99% friendly and bottom 50 99% friendly" ranking.
This would provide positive incentive for companies to be 99% friendly, but also would provide large losses to companies that are proven to be the opposite. Especially in industries where the goods are very comparable in price, and branding holds the main weight (such as grocery stores, and even sometimes industries like automobiles and airlines) we could make a large economic impact on them - and let's be honest - their pocketbooks are what drives their behavior.
What do you think?
