Forum Post: Threaten to shut down the entire country on July 5 for a very specific objective

The objective is no Federal income tax on any household making $50,000 or less and a 75% tax rate on all income above $500,000. It's simple. It's specific. It's easy to understand. It's easy to implement. Shut down means occupy what you can, don't buy anything you don't absolutely need, don't go to work (if you can do that without undue harm to your family and if your services are not vital to other people), non-violent civil disobedience such as sitting down in the middle of roads, and whatever else you can think of. Almost anyone can contribute to that shut down in some way - including doing absolutely nothing. The point of threatening is to, hopefully, achieve the objective without having to actually make good on the threat. I certainly do not want to see the country shut down. The reason for July 5 is that it is timed to Independence Day but allows us all to celebrate this great country - flawed though it is. The 99% have the real power but it must focus on something very specific and achievable. This is not a panacea for the world's problems but it is a start and it addresses one of the most obvious injustices in this country. I do appreciate the wide variety of objectives of Occupy, but a time honored expression comes to mind - United we stand, Divided we fall.
